I agree. I used to fiddle around with the settings between passes trying to find that magic combo with a Parker Variant. I never did. Now with my Gillette Slim, I just keep it at 9 and have at it--I get great shaves with it that way. :D

    JustOneJuly Shave #8

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: RenRen Shavette
    Blade: Schick Proline P-30
Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts 26 mm Tuxedo
    Lather: Razorock Stallion
Aftershave: Wholly Kaw King of Oud
    Additional Care:
    Barbero Alum Block
    Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Another fabulous day of a workout, splitting wood and an all around great shave. Wood splitting should be basically completed by the weekend. Three cords should get me through the winter.

The JustOneJuly marches on. I am really digging the Oud. I am in week two with no signs of waning from this scent. I have been getting phenomenal lathers and smooth shaves. I am quite happy with the Schick Proline, considering it has given me 7 great shaves. I am not sure how much longer I want to push it. Perhaps a new blade after tomorrow.
    Have a great day gentlemen.

Thank you Jim. I have had the Dogwood brush for about two years. I had no problem obtaining it at the time. Seth’s brushes are now extremely hard to obtain. They sell out within minutes of the drop.

Awesome shave, Joe! That Proline is really putting in some serious hours for you. It's easy to forget sometimes that a single edge is putting in twice the work that a DE razor blade does. It's like getting 14 shaves! Love that dogwood brush handle, btw :D

I have 2 or 3 more that are over half gone so I should be able to knock some of those out this year as well.

Sorry for the double report, but things got a little weird yesterday, and I couldn’t get back to you.

A very rushed 2 pass shave!

    Gear
    • Razor: Max Headroom Focus R21 Shavette
    • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (2
    • Brush: JOmegan boar
    • Soap: Stirling Texas on Fire & Glastonbury--I had a little bit of leftover Glastonbury pressed to the bottom of my bowl, so I loaded the rest of it and then proceeded to apply a small layer of Texas on Fire to my face directly from my shave stick. From my catching up of the many posts I missed last week, I gathered that there are a few of you who are not fans--fair enough. I topped it off with Clubman just to upset the rest of you ;)
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Clubman Original (1 Frost Drop)
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented
    20200707_132515-01.jpeg

    The Shave
A 2.25 pass shave today (I usually have to take on the chin a 3rd time), WTG and XTG/ATG. Finished with an above-average DFS, although I may have unconsciously re-shaved or over-shaved parts of my upper lip. A tad warm, but nothing worse than some very light irritation. Good shave overall

    The Emperor Strikes Back

    Gear
    • Razor: Linuxguile Lupo
    • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (5)--still chugging away with this blade, no indication of tugging or discomfort when shaving with it.
    • Brush: The JOmegan Boar
    • Soap: Stirling Texas on Fire (prepared and chilled with ice water)
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Avon Wild Country (1 Frost Drop)
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented--1 small drop applied to a lightly wetted hand
    20200708_105948-01.jpeg

    The Shave
Applied the Texas on Fire directly to my face from the shave stick. Stirling is a pretty soft soap, so while it’s easy to apply, it’s also pretty messy--you get an accumulation of soap along the edges of the stick that needs to be finagled onto your face.

After dialing the lather in (much faster than the bowl, btw), I started a simple 2 pass shave--WTG & XTG/ATG. The shave was so quick and pleasant, though, so I threw in a 3rd ATG pass to swoop up the baby. Didn’t have to, but rationalized it by telling me it was a Hump Day celebration. Yeah… that’s the ticket!

Enjoy your Hump Day, folks! :D

These 30 day experiment things seem to bumpstart learning. I wet shaved blandly/inefficiently/without enthusiasm for about 3 years before getting RAD and then tooling around with technique and prep and differences in razors.

I realized if I'm going to spend 30 minutes on something everyday, it would be better if I learned to enjoy it.
