  1. That is a fascinating story, Jeff! Congrats on the razor, and props to Tom for getting it back into shaving shape once again. That's quite a piece of history you have, and one to be cherished, for sure! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Dr. @Trigger, thanks for giving me a like. In your chemistry experience does what I said about the Frost Drops make sense, or is it just a coincidence that shaking the vial produces the drops?

A busy morning here at the homestead. I was up early with a back ache so I cooked bacon, sausage and grits for the family. Waited until each woke up to cook their eggs to order. I just finished running errands with my wife. She was kind enough to stop off by the beverage store and even come inside. Of course with her taste in booze we didn't get out cheap. Me I am easy to please with quantity having a quality all its own. So now that we are back for the day I can report on the morning shave. I decided to change things up and went back to the Enoch but loaded a Feather Pro Super blade. I pulled out the Heritage Dubl Duck with the TnS gel boar knot for another go. I bowl lathered the Godrej lime shave cream and ended up with excellent results albeit with a healthy amount of shave cream. Skimpers on soap and cream should pass on this knot. Three passes and touch ups did end up with the baby in hand. Operator error due to my clumsiness result in a nice cut on the chin. I am not sure the Super Pro blade offers that much of an improvement in the shave to warrant the increased concentration on my part. Something to ponder, I guess. A splash on Fine Italian Citrus and I won't have to worry about the ladies on isle 12......maybe just the ones on all the other isles. ;) I do hope everyone has a great Sunday.

  5. Your story’s very interesting, Bruce! I have never shaved with a cartridge razor, although my sons all did, until they saw the error of their ways. I shaved with the same Schick Krona for 50 years. When I think back it was just something I did in the morning. It was my oldest son, Ben, who is a straight shaver who got me thinking about multipass shaves. He introduced me to TSD. He’s been lurking here for tears apparently, recommended this forum as the best and the friendliest. Makes sense, Canadians are unfailingly polite and friendly!

  6. Great shave, Clint! I really like the Feather Super in my AC razors, but definitely not in my Feather SS barber’s razor. They deliver a really close shave for me in the AC razors. They and the Schick prolines are my gotos. The Prolines do last a lot longer than the Supers for me, but then again, I’m shaving dome and mug! May I ask where you sourced the Godrej Lime cream. I’m a fan of CF lime, but that’s the only strongly scented soap I enjoy. How does the Godrej compare?

  7. By shaking the Frost Drops, you have increased the kinetic energy (energy of movement) which is directly proportional to the increase in temperature. Temp. measures average kinetic energy. Your hand also increases the temperature of the solution by heat conduction. Now, these two factors will only increase the temp. insignificantly because the activity time is quite brief. I believe that the high temp that we have been having these few days may have played a more significant role.

  9. Thank you Jeff. The Godrej is a shave cream made in India. My wife picked it up in the local Indian grocery store. The scent of the soap is more like a sweet lime, maybe even candy like. The scent last through the shave but is gone as soon as you rinse and clean up.

  14. You didn't think there was a chance I'd let that slide, didja Paul? :D
I do hope you realize that I was kidding with you about the Midnight Stag. I wasn't kidding that I don't like it, or that my wife hates it. Feel free to wear whatever you want. I can't smell you from here... :happy102:

  19. Thank you, Clint! I appreciate your take on what you did before taking this hobby up, and your thoughts on it in general.

I think the idea of saving money vs. using carts did cross my mind. Of course, that was before it became a hobby. I could have six lifetimes worth of cart refills for what I've put into traditional shaving. Like we've discussed before, there are far more expensive hobbies - so, a tub of soap, brush, or even a razor really isn't that bad in the scheme of things. I agree that there's something for everybody, and they can choose to spend as much - or as little - as they see fit. I did "recruit" a few guys along the way, none of which became hobbyists. They enjoy using a DE razor, using a brush w/ soap - and the savings that come along with it. However, to them, it's still shaving and they don't love it the same way we do. That's enviable in its own way.

Electric razors didn't agree with my face. Probably because I didn't use any form of prep, nor did I even know about using prep. It left my face feeling as if it had windburn.

Even though friends and coworkers think it's a strange hobby, I look forward to my shave every morning. I can't say that was the case when I used carts.
  20. Excellent shave! Sounds like a wonderful morning at Chez Clint's! I'll take three eggs over medium please... :D
