1. The double concave is something interesting. I’m waiting to see if the center lines up with the spine and bevel on the hone.
I ‘think??’ It was intended to have some of the full hallow ground qualities and mix the strength and mass of the wedge in the design. Playing Sherlock with the guys who didn’t really keep records 130-200 years ago is it’s own sport.
This one sure has some sweet lines to it.

  3. Oh I know. It's funny, reading Old Type threads, the vast majority of folks put a couple shims in it, swap out the handle for a different one and call it good. Very few people actually like shaving with them bone stock. Those few tend to be rather vocal about it though.

  5. I'm still waiting for my 100 Nacets & 100 GSBs to arrive. I ordered 100 Polsilvers SI's tonight. With those three, plus the 250 Personna Lab Blues, I should be set for blades to the end of the year!
  6. do you use them once and binned?

  8. You make me sound like a disreputable hooligan. :p

Edit: besides, Tom made the jig. It's not like I'm beating these things out an an anvil. (Though that would actually probably work. ...for certain values of "work.")
  9. I should be getting your razor out this weekend. If I can squeeze in a bit more free time.

I finally get to try my hand at teeth straightening. I've noticed a nasty trend lately... I think the price of bent teeth razors has gone up noticeably since I posted my "fixing bent razor teeth" article.

Or it was because it was a 1918 U.S. Service set with an uncracked handle. Missing blade bank and mirror, which is fairly common.

I just so happen to have the correct blade bank for this set too.

  15. I certainly hope to get many more shaves than one from the Polsilvers. The Nacets & Personna Lab Blues, my top 2 blades, I easily get more than 10 shaves per blade. And that's still smooth clean shaving. I'm not one to stretch an inexpensive blades life for the sake of saying I've gotten 20, 30, or 50 shaves out of a blade. But I generally can get more than 10 quality shaves from my top tier blades with no diminshed results. I'm hopeing the same for the Polsilvers.

  20. Well, I just got this in, and though the case says "Property U.S. Army," the razor does not, thus this is a mismatched set. The razor does have the appropriate serial numbers for 1918 manufacture, and is in immaculate condition. (Aside from the split handle). It either still has 99% of the plating, or has been replated at some point.

I'm probably going to replace the razor head in the service set with this one.
