August 14th Proraso PS - Red MdC SS - Fougère HC Ever Ready 200 clone Filarmonica Doble Temple 13 (4th gen) Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements ASB - Star Jelly Asylum Shave Works AS - Royal Fougère Had this set up for yesterday's shave (even did the image Wednesday night), but timing just didn't go as expected. Today's not much different.....gotta get out the door soon for an event this weekend. Very nice fragrant Fougère MdC bowl lather (added a couple drops glycerin) made with the HC Ever Ready clone. Lather release was good today.....in my mind, I completely overloaded the badger knot swirling on the open container with the damp brush, maybe I just don't load enough for badger knots. This blade hadn't seen use in awhile...it went a round on the linen/leather strop just before use. Smooth and sharp shaving. Light razor in comparison to my usuals, very audible feedback as it's a thin grind. 2.5 passes, WTG, XTG, opposite XTG on the lower neck/jawline, no shenanigans. BBS-. Quick application of the PAA Star Jelly, followed with a new top favorite Fougère after shave. Hope everyone has a great Friday!
friday shave 1949 canadian early rocket(aristocrat jr second gen) platinum eveready c40 badger s.c. bignoli antica ricetta fine platinum good morning gents, pulled out the early canadian rocket for today, these were sold in england as second gen aristocrat jrs but some came here before the diamond stamped baseplate (3rd gen ) versions were ready in 1949.the "rocket" name came from canada as far as i can figure as no other country used this name on these razors before this..head heavy like the first gen i used yesterday due to the flat baseplate.i like more balanced razors but these are the exception.awesome shavers..the 3rd gen (diamond stamped baseplate) and 4th gen (u.s searly superspeed without markings) are more neutral in balance and milder shave wise.. fabulous 2+ pass bbs today with a platinum blade, the s.c bignoli tallow formula soap was fantastic, lather built by Keith's @Enrico restored eveready c40 badger brush.capped it off with fine platinum aftershave..awesome..have a fine friday and a relaxing weekend everyone....
Friday's Shave 1959 Gillette Fatboy (E4) Gillette Platinum (2) Vulfix #28 Boar Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap Dickinson's WItch Hazel Pitralon Original Aftershave Today, I checked another aftershave off my bucket list. Pitralon Classic is a wonderful scent predominantly of cedar and gave me a nice chill of menthol and a light, clean face feel (no heavy "skin foods"). It will be a re-purchase later. From their website: Under the motto ‘real values don’t lie’, Pitralon still finds its way to men who are not swayed by the flavour of the month, but want pure, no nonsense products. 3 passes with the Fatboy set on 9 today provided a nice BBS result and no irritation for Fat Friday. A few fleeting weepers appeared under the jawline after the third pass, but I attribute that to me using setting 9 instead of my usual 7 setting. I think the shaving angle needed to be altered slightly with the setting change. EDIT: Some neck irritation did appear later on in the afternoon. So, something was off with this shave; I just don't know what yet. It probably had nothing to do with the razor's setting.
i think they petered out around 1985 with some "i am an old broke rock star and need money" tours in the last 20 or so years..like all the other ones are..the stones are preserved so they will be around for another 50..
Gary, thank you..good morning to you. Well, ya did it again...I'm still trying to get used to your previous avatar and you pop a new one on us. I do like the new one.
Was it that long ago for ELO? Course the 3 remaining "Beach Gentlemen"" still do stuff(like the Stones).
thank you Paul..i can't make up my mind on which avatar to use,so i change it like my razors.."thought of the day" tends to decide it's outcome..
I remember you saying that about why you change them. As you know, I'm sticking with mine, as it's a mountain I climbed twice before. Too old for the trifecta(chuk yuk yuk).
Boar Month - Shave #14 Rating: 5 / 5 Razor: Merkur 37c Slant Blade: Treet Classic Brush: Brent Jacobson Tamarind and Ebony w/ Paragon 24mm boar Lather: Barrister & Mann Reserve Fern Aftershave: B & M Reserve Fern Additional Care: Barbero Alum Block Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm Osage Rub Excellent shave this morning with the B & M Reserve Fern. It is a very fresh scent to my nose. I am continuing to get impressive performances from my boar brushes this month. Today’s choice, the Brent Jacobson Tamarind and Ebony w/ Paragon 24mm boar, easily whipped up a thick yogurt like lather with the assistance of my Fine Accoutrements bowl. The weapon of choice, the Merkur 37c, delivered a flawless three pass shave. This razor, acquired in the mid 1990’s, was my first DE purchased since the mid 1970’s. The DE’s of my teenage years have long disappeared. Now, I wish I still had them in my collection. I finished off this shave with the usual combination of alum, witch hazel and splash. However, today given the warm weather I treated myself to OSR between the witch hazel and the Reserved Fern aftershave. What a nice little treat for my face. Enjoy your Friday gentlemen.
