  2. That's so awesome that you got great shaves with both of your new razors. I am just laughing on the sidelines as you hated the thought of straights, then you were frustrated, now you are loving it. It is a combination of getting a sharp razor and enough practice to improve technique so that straight razor shaving is enjoyable. Once you learn to hone your razors and get super quality shaves, then you will appreciate the shaves so much more. Congratulations on your 2 new razors and fantastic shaves Jeff!
  3. Fantastic shave and uplifting post Maestro!

  4. Glad you have your son showing you the path with lessons!

I was introduced into wet shaving, ultimately straight razor shaving entirely on my own as I decided in Dec 2018 I was tired of carts. Went the DE route first with two Gillettes, but always with an interest in open blades, and ordered two SRs within a month of a DE purchase.

After lots of lurking, reading, watching videos and talking with two professionals did I decide on my SR maintenance setup. Those two are Glen Mercurio and Derek of J3Customs. The commonality (minimalist approach) between these two professionals was eye opening. Ceramic for a bevel set and finishing (which includes the slurry stone), and a strop setup. More reading and interest led me to the pasted mounted strop setup as an in-between stones and hanging strop.

  9. Every straight razor shaver finds their perfect path in their journey as far as razor grind, razor type and honing tools. Yes, we need to have the basics down, but ultimately everyone's individuality comes into play and that's the beauty of this hobby. Blair, have a great day and thanks for sharing your straight shaving journey over the last yr and a half!

    Giod afternoon guys!

    Straight razor shave #195
    F. Herder (Ace of Spades) 7/8 Full Hollow Square Point
    JR #386 Silvertip Badger
    Razorock XX SS
    Pinaud Lilac Vegetal

This was a late morning shave. I haven't used the RR XX soap in awhile because it is my least favorite soap due to the minimal scent strength. It is clean frag, but it is very difficult to pickup. I am fine with it because I can use any aftershave to complement it. The JR #386 whipped up a nice, creamy lather. I haven't used my F Herder and Sons straight in sometime so today I decided to take it out. This one one of my first vintage razors and it was one of my favorites, but as I added more straights, it has dropped to the middle of the pack (#7 of 16) However, it still is a fine shaver. On 2.5 passes, it gave me an IBSS + shave without any problems. I was inspired to take out the Veg because some of you recently used your Veggies. Double splashed this excellent aftershave to finish the shave. Everytime I go to the Veg., the scent gets better. Have a fantastic day my friends! 20200817_152656.jpg 20200817_152656.jpg

    Boar Month - Shave #18

    Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: AJ Jordan Old Faithful Cocolobo scales
Brush: Shore Shave Blue Nebula w/ Paragon 25 mm Boar
    Lather: Tim’s Soap Busta’s Blend
    Aftershave: Pinuad Citrus Musk
    Additional Care:
    Barbero Alum Block
    Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

I had a wonderful shave with this soap and razor. The scent of the soap is a citrus base with lemon grass, lemon sage and some herbaceous notes. Excellent lather production by the boar brush. I am definitely enjoying my boar month theme.
