  1. Never killed an edge on purpose since I began honing knives back in the mid 1970s. My opinion.....don't see the need, wastes steel, and possibly causes more work for oneself.

Back then I used a magnifying glass, then a 10x loupe, now a 20x jewelers loupe. I did purchase a digital wireless/camera/microscope when I started honing straight razors, but to be honest, it's 100x overkill (literally :happy097:), but fun to play with for $40.

Using a bevel set stone, I do a few strokes on each side, look at the edge, repeat til the problem area clears itself (equaling bevel set along the entire edge), then a finishing hone for the final edge.

  2. August 21 Favorite Friday Shave!

    Good morning guys!

    Straight razor shave #196
    C-Mon P J Michels 5/8 Full Hollow Sq Pt
C-Mon Heritage Collection Super HD Brush
Chiseled Face Cryogen SS and AS

Today, I decided to pick one of my favorite lineups. The C-Mon brush is beautiful and the matching C-mon razor just makes it that much more so. Of course, Cryogen is a great, slick, highly mentholated soap. I soaked the brush to wet my face and lightly tapped the brush. Normally, I don't add water to the puck but I strayed from my usual routine when using this soap out because I forgot to do the dry brush method. 2.5 passes gave my a near BBS. On my first pass, I got a weep on my right neck, but it went away on its own during my second pass. Finished with a double splash of the matching juice and I am ready for the day. Have an awesone Friday guys! 20200821_101407.jpg
  3. Agreed! Once the bevel is set, there's no need to reset it unless the incidents that I mentioned earlier happen.

  14. I've never killed or reset an edge on a knife or straight razor at any time, by purposely dulling it on a stone, if there is an incident or issue. I choose to start honing to an even bevel set from the git go.

I was inspired by Gary's Goodwill info yesterday to pull out my #160 this morning. Not bad for spare parts put together during the depression and given away for free.
Everything worked as it should, which is a very good thing. This CK-6 really is a good soap. As Keith would say- Epic.
    Have a great day all!
