  11. Bill @Edison Carter needs to explain this as he uses a convex hone. Check The Superior Shave as the proprietor Jarred sells them and has a detailed explanation.

  13. So last night with the straight razor shave, it didn't necessary go bad nor good, I didn't cut my self surprisingly though. It was quite awkward holding the razor. It seemed as if it wasn't cutting the hair much despite the fact that it was very sharp, This probably had to do with my angle and form. At times I felt it tugging, yet it never cut me, I'll give it some more time, maybe I will get better.

  16. I am glad you didn't cut yourself. Did you mute the tip? If not, then I suggest you do so that you don't poke yourself. You don't want to worry about where the point is while you are learning to shave. If the razor is sharp, then you would have had no trouble shaving the hair off your face. You need to keep the razor 1 spine width away from your face. Doing so will give you the best angle for the razor to shave effectively. It is also possible that the razor isn't sharp enough and it needs to be honed.

Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements PS Tube 2.0, SS & AS&C (Atmotic), ASB Star Jelly
    Simpson Trafalgar T3 Synthetic
    Hüsgen & Ern 6/8

Incredible PAA CK-6 lather this morning, bowl overflowing yogurty goodness whipped up via a Simpson T3. Super face feel, slick enough for almost endless buffing. Wiped the blade down after retrieving from the razor chest, linen and leather strop session (about a minute's worth), and straight to shaving. Smooth Solingen steel, very audible feedback while mowing the 28 hour lawn. Enjoyed Sat/Sun with the Blackland Tradere....but it's awesome to have straight razor steel on skin again this morning. Caught a couple facial blemishes/small weepers, eh...no worries. BBS- results after 3 full passes, small patch on the chin missed as I didn't want to over shave a blemish area. Squirt of Star Jelly....followed by a favorite aroma, PAA's Atmotic. Smooth, smelling great & ready for a Monday.

Hope everyone has a great day!

  19. Great first shave with a straight razor Myles. No cuts or issues is a great result on your first outing, even if it's not the same smooth that comes from razors you are familiar with. Angle, form, pressure....comes in time.

Haven't completely kept up, but do you have a strop? You'll need that to help keep the edge sharp/smooth in between shaves and honing (whenever that time comes).
