  6. Thanks, Keith, had a conversation with Jared, but it was far from illuminating. Other than ‘that's the way the Germans have been doing it for the last century’ I didn’t take much away!

  8. Theory being, that a smaller section of the razor is isolating edge-to-spine contact negating a less than perfect overall geometry.

You would be correct to assume a straight forward up and down motion would develop a frown. An 'x' type honing motion is required to avoid this from happening.

I've read about numerous other techniques used to hone wonky razors i.e. - using the corner of the stone, using the side of the stone, using a long narrow stone, and applying the use of alternating honing pressures in the finest sense of 'honing skills'.

Here is the link for an explanation given by the greatest advocate for the use of a convexed stone.
    https://thesuperiorshave.com/product/convex-hones/
Many disagree with the author, but he has sold over 20k razors and personally honed most of them of which I have several. No disrespects to any honing aficionados who prefer other methods on my part.

I have always viewed honing to be a skilled craft in which making one's self happy is far more important than having argument over how to do so.

I have synthetic stones I lap flat. I have convex stones that will stay that way. If I cave into the weakness and buy one of those nice jasper stones for my birthday, it will stay flat.

    Be well!
