  2. Yes, they are deceptively decent razors. I can shave with one in my sleep if I had to!

    Menthol Monday

I am really enjoying this Aristocrat. I almost always get a no drama BBS with it.

As always my @jtspartan brush is one of my favorites.

  8. Myles congratulations on a blood free shave.

Straight razors are designed to be sharpened lying flat on the hone, plus a steel sharpening stick is at best 1,000 grit. I only use 1,000 grit stone when fixing a very bad edge and to set a bevel. I would not dream of using a diamond plate nor steel sharpening stick to hone a razor. If you have used the sharpening stick then the edge is now toast and needs to be rezoned. Likely the edge is now 'chippy', which will cut arm hair but be painful to shave with.

The best thing is to send it out to be honed. Once is is honed you will need a strop to prepare the edge before each shave. If I was in the US I would offer to hone it for you but shipping between Korea and the US is crazy expensive now.

Here are some tips I give all new open blade shavers.

If you are in a hurry put down the straight and pick up a safety razor.

If someone may burst in mid shave put down the straight and pick up a safety razor.

If the edge doesn't feel right put down the straight and pick up a safety razor.

If anything does not feel right put down the straight and pick up a safety razor.

Start with just your cheeks and finish with a DE, then go a little further each shave. It is easier if you use both hands, some angles are hard to do without using your off hand. I used an empty shavette to build muscle memory in my off hand and to figure what grips works best.

Best of luck on your entrance to the dark side. A common saying is that it takes 100 shaves to become consistent and proficient with a open edge.

  9. It busy for me these days so it is tough to keep up. Here is a catch up post.

Saturday My woman returned to Korea and started her quarantine. Used a smiling Drew Dick 6/8 hollow grind to deliver an epic shave.

Sunday we received Juliet's Covid test back and she is negative. To celebrate I used a smiling SK-3, always a joy to shave with. Juliet has to quarantine for 15 days, so 14 more to go. At least with a negative test we can stay in the same apartment.

Monday is back to work so the Joris came out to deliver and excellent shave:

Tuesday brought out my Wacker Huntsman, the planets aligned and the shave was epic.

    Klar Kabinett~~Simpson~~'47 Super-Speed/Sharp Star~~Seaforth!
Early shave today, but quite enjoyable.

Superior suds from the Klar Kabinett, carefully created with the Simpson Chubby 2.
Soft knot, but a tad bit selfish with the lather.
Last day for the Sharp Star. I don't mind buffing, but today, too much was required
    to get the smooth shave.
The Seaforth! Spiced Lime rivals the Old Spice Lime in scent and "feel".
Love the old Seaforth! bottles, too.
