SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, AUGUST 28, 2020

I’d like to thank Trigger and my son, Ben for a truly epic (trademark @Keithmax) shave this morning. My straight razor mug shaves to date with two exceptions, had been frustratingly incomplete requiring me to finish up my neck with a safety razor. After reviewing a video Trigger provided yesterday and receiving some direct coaching last night from my son while finishing a plastering job, I achieved my first perfect facial VBBS.

I carefully burnished the edge of the Dubl Duck Goldedge (DDG) last night with a series of pull strokes at Ben’s suggestion on the jasper stone until I achieved a mirror-like sheen and finished with 10 strokes on the paddle strop. The Rearden Razor synth brush whipped up a glorious wet, slick, cooling MWF lather. The shave with the DDG was nothing sort of glorious. But the best part was shearing away the recalcitrant stubble on either side of my AA with a new scissor hold that resulted in an epic three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG) VBBS straight shave!

For my dome shave, I selected my long neglected DLC coated SS RazoRock Lupo, Ruds Shaves’s pick for 2019 safety razor of the year. As I’ve said before, I own too many superb safety blade holders. Loaded with a fresh Nacet, the Lupo cleaned up the dome in one and 1/2 passes ( ATG, ATG) leaving me with a matching VBBS noggin shave! I feel refreshed, cool, clean and very smoothly velveteen!

RAZOR: Dubl Duck Goldedge (Mug), RazoRock DLC Coated SS Lupo
    BLADE: Nacet DE (1)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Rearden Razor 316L SS Synthetic
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Cremo Cooling Balm.
  3. Thanks, Clint!

    ETHOS Succès~~CH2 Synthetic~~Feather AS-D2/Polsilver
Didn't take me long to figure this soap out.
Took a little scoopful and smeared it in my bowl.
    IMG_5326.jpeg
With a damp, but for all intents and purposes, dry synthetic brush, started to lather.
    IMG_5327.jpeg
I chose the synthetic, because I KNEW I was going to have to really bear down and scrub this soap, something I am unwilling to do with my badger brushes. I cleared the breach twice and barely---if at all, added a couple of drops of water. Results are self-evident:

I have come to the conclusion that ETHOS soaps are NOT thirsty. They work better with LESS water. This is markedly different than 99% of the other soaps in my den. Today's lather was uber-slick, prolifically protective and ultra-cushiony. My razor glided across my skin like Dick Button at the Olympics. The scent, as I said yesterday is fantastic. While I am a HUGE lavender fan, dare I say this soap, like fresh cream, has risen to the top of my charts.
  10. Wonderful, Joseph!

  15. Nice Karve, Shave! It’s a nice-looking razor, but aluminurazors are unfortunately too light for me! Glad your shave went well! I love my brass Karve!

    Boar Month - Shave #28

    Razor: PAA Prismatic
    Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock (Green)
    Brush: Semogue Torga C5
Lather: LA Shaving Soap Company Blackfern
    Aftershave: Chatillon Lux YRP Toner
    Additional Care:
    Barbero Alum Block
    Stirling Tea Tree Witch Hazel

We have a beautiful day to enjoy outdoor activities including the pool. We had a few rounds of T-storms last evening so the pool is a bit cooler. May have to turn on the heater.

Today shave featured another soap that tends to get lost in the recesses of the den cabinet. The LA Black Fern soap is a nice Fougere based shave. It is described as follows: “ notes of floral lavender and geranium rounded out with patchouli and labdanum, with hints of clove and eucalyptus and orange and peppermint, which results in a very pleasant fresh scent!” The pairing with the CL YRP is a perfect compliment.

The Prismatic easily mowed down the 24 hour whiskers. The blade, it’s fifth shave, met the bin upon completing the task. A super smooth shave was the final result.

    Happy Friday gentlemen.

  19. Great Frankenrazor shave, PierPaolo!
