Yes, I do most my work in Aluminum. All I have are tools for metal work. I'm the odd one in this thread for sure.
Here is a new set that turned out OK....It's Wild Almond from Australia...One of the kids gave me a chunk of it ....
Hi Tim, I think this is a good and helpful post. I am curious, why d0 you go back to sand paper after the Micro-mesh ? Cheers Dave
I'm playing around with resin. Obviously I'm just getting started and there are some very skilled craftsmen on here. I've wanted a Chubby 2 or 3 for a while. These are what I have so far. I will anodize the aluminum, probably in a light blue. The resin was mixed with sidewalk chalk that had been ground in a food processor (Yes I had permission. It's mine now. She doesn't want it back). For an expirement I expected to fail miserably, I think it turned out really nice. I'm just not sure its the brush I want use the 30mm Silvertip Badger knot in.
It really all depends on the thickness of the CA and what depth was needed to provide an adequate coverage. If the finish doesn't allow Micro Mesh to smooth to my satisfaction, I just use some wet sanding to finalize it.
OK thanks....I have not used med or thick CA much...I have just been applying 20-25 coats of thin... I will give it a go. I have not been using sandpaper much either. Just Abra mesh, and 3M sheets. thanks again.
This was a fun one. I used baby powder in this resin. At least it's opaque. It's somewhat marbled but you can't really see it in the photos. I have a lot to learn working with resin.
Impressive work. It amazes me what you can actually use in resin. Saw a few videos that used charcoal, mustard, ketchup, and some other weird items. If if has a color that will not dissolve, I guess it will work to some degree. I'll stick with Jacquards, Marbles, and other reputable powders. Resin is too expensive for me to experiment with....
