  1. I *think* what is meant by this is - the blade edge itself is what does the cutting, but that edge has a coating on it from the factory. Once the coating begins to wear off and you're left with the uncoated edge, some of the smoothness goes with it.
If that's not right, hopefully someone will set the record straight.
  2. Neat razor Keith. Very faux frameback style. The grind wheel 'small' edge radius, very evident, versus the larger arc more commonly seen. Terre d' Hermes, great juice!

  3. I'm a crafty fellow. If I did something like that it would be after building a jig for setting the bevel and honing a fresh edge. Just the type of thing you do in May

  4. If a coating exists out past the blade edge (of the metal), sure.

Hardened edges on paint can cut. Extreme example.

Or....one time I forgot my 'safari style' UV protective long sleeve outdoor shirts (or also sold as fishing shirts found at Bass Pro) for a weekend event. Texas summer. 104+ degrees expected, off the charts UV exposure alerts. Closest store had spray on sunscreen or sunscreen goo. I hate goo. I used so many spray coatings on my forearms each day....the hair turned into icicles that looked clear coated and were very stiff. Lots of water and soap required each evening to 'break' off the coating! At least no sunburn or even more tanned. Never forgot a UV safari shirt since. A backup shirt now is permanently in the work truck.
  5. Isn't that kinda cheating for a MAYhem shave? :happy097:
That's about the only way you're gonna get a good shave out of a scraper blade - by redoing the edge. They will shave, just not enjoyably.

  6. Thank you for putting this into terms even Primo can understand. :) Blair, I guess you could have used your arm as a wire brush.
  7. :thanks: Joe.

  9. Not quite. Was definitely not a side effect I thought about, or even a label warning. I started spraying from all sides to even out the coating (playing).....my skin and fore arm hair had the shiny clear coating. Sweat didn't even break it down much. A few participants noticed too and thought it was crazy.

This week is going by very quickly. Back to the RM Sandalwood cream today. This cream has a touch of menthol which makes it nice on hot muggy mornings like today. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama free BBS shave. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

  15. I suppose there are two schools of thought regarding MAYhem. One is the masochistic use of substandard gear and the other is creative problem solving to ridiculous levels of pointless effort. I subscribe more to the later.
Looks like I am shaving with the shiv this morning. :scared011:

  18. Another might be using something never for it's intended purpose?

I missed MAYhem this year. First year, 2019, I was too much of a newbie (scaredy cat!)...and then May this year, I was working 18 hour days, couldn't get it done. 2021....I got plans! ;)
  19. It is pretty cool how those two finishes are so closely matched. Great image of them! I may have to look into this Fine Santal Absolut......
