  1. Thanks, Blair! I really like the edge on this Sheffield Steel. Not as smooth as my two Japanese Silver Steel razors, but that’s probably my fault. I didn’t give it the same amount of attention last night as I did to the Jap razors.

  2. Very nice, Jeff! That razor sure doesn't look like it's that old. Great find!

  3. Thanks, Andrew! The restorer dated it. If you check out the stamp that apparently is one clue to it’s age.

  8. I need to come clean. I fell off the wagon a couple of days ago and performed a shower shave with a four-blade rotating head Dorco cart and brush less shaving cream. Since I used no mirror in the shower (I don't want to scare myself), I shave by feel until I'm mostly BBS. I was still fairly smooth yesterday, but I'm ready for the SRX today. Our quarantine is over (we thankfully never had any symptoms), so we plan to visit some friends at a distance in their backyard today.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of helping a good friend get started with traditional shaving. He will soon be the proud owner of a brass Karve (3.25" handle, "C" OC and SB plates, and a matching stand), Proraso products, Voskhod blades, and a JR brush. The brush will be similar to JR # 310, but the base of the brush handle will be inset with a Poppy medallion. It was similar to the pins he wears on his jacket. (See below.) This will be a surprise, but his Bride is in on it. Once she receives everything, we'll spring it on him during our weekly FaceTime chat. It will be fun helping him get started.

These are the kind folks that walked alongside us all summer and have invited us to visit them once things settle down. They want us to see the natural beauty of B.C., and his (gourmet cook) Bride wants to showcase her Mediterranean cooking talents for us. There may be some wine involved too.

  10. Great news that you and Kathy are out of self-quarantine, Charlie! I am sure your friend will be ecstatic over your generosity. Have a great day!
  11. Thanks Joe. Prayers were definitely answered.

Before you think I'm being generous, consider the cost of having to feed me for a week. Just the cookies and ice cream would require you to get a second job. :D

Be well and stay healthy, my friend. You are a big part of what makes this group special.
  12. One day I'll have to grab a Karve for myself. They are beautiful razors. I noticed that Razor Emporium had some of the brass models rhodium-plated. Those clearly possessed both the first and second kinds of cool.

    First kind of cool: performance
    Second kind of cool: enjoyment

    Video for @brit

Nutnfancy is quite the gear head. If he ever got into traditional shaving, he might give some of you (you know who you are :) ) a run for the money.

  13. Speaking of feed you for a week, I just bought a bag of Bob's Red Mill Whole Chia Seeds. Great ingredients and nutrition.

Arianna & Evans SS & AS/SF - Vanille de Tabac
    PAA Switchback 400 - TGN 24mm 2 band badger
Drew Dick EFH 5/8 - Cocobolo scales
    Zingari Man ASB Unscented

Opposite end of the spectrum shaving with this Drew Dick razor today. Acquired from @Keithmax back in June 2019, it's barely a 5/8 blade with an 'extra full hollow' grind on it. Beautiful cocobolo scales. Extra full hollow....like shaving with DE blade with the back half glued to a popsicle stick (which I think was a Mayhem shave at one time?). Blade is very flexy, have to be careful when honing or stropping, or it can bend and become a paperweight. Very audible when shaving. Great bowl lather from the A&E SS and TGN badger. Slick yogurty lather slinging fun this morning. 2.5 passes, a weeper on the corner of the mouth. Extremely smooth with no rough patches found anywhere. Quick Zingari Man ASB rub followed with a dousing of Arianna & Evans Vanille de Tabac after shave & skin food. Awesome fragrance, very similar to Stirling's Haverford, but maybe with a hint more clove. Wifey approved.

59 degrees out this morning! Summer temps broken. Highs of mid 70s today. Firing up the Big Green Egg for some fun later today.

Hope everyone has a Terrific Thursday!
  15. Nice shave Blair! Have a great Day!

Had a great shave this morning. Wanted to get my type e shave in before committing to one razor for 7 days. In fact I have a new razor arriving Saturday so that may be my start. I think Joe @Trigger was going to start Saturday too so, I'm in good company.

Honestly this little shaver surprised me. It's only the second time I've used it and the first time I wasn't as good at this. I got a 2 pass DFS, but very near BBs shave. I'll take that any day.

Last night my church's youth group had a meeting to discuss procedures for having worship services in person. We have a 99 person limit and the ushers (the youth) will be instructed to turn people away when the numbers are reached. It will be really strange to turn people away from church, but I wonder if it's going to be a problem. They're having a morning and afternoon session and people are being asked to attend a specific time alphabetically. It will be nice to attend church in person. I hope it lasts.

Good morning Gents, decided do a bowl lather with today’s shave, got a more relaxed day ahead for today yet still busy. Really enjoying this soap and brush, I need to break in this brush in so I will be using it more often.
