Good Morning All. Happy Monday... :D

Hey, me too! Thanks, Justin. I dislike paying rent (at least on top of a mortgage and a 2nd). :sick007

Natural Selection does not include Parental Angst, except in extreme (very extreme) cases. In those cases it's the parents that are eliminated from the gene pool.

Well, my brand new server arrived today. 125 lbs. of raw computing beast! Dual quadcores... maxed out.

I've got server 2008 just waiting to be installed on it.

Now, I guess I've got to start acting like I know what I'm doing, or else people around here might get suspicious. :ashamed001 ;) :D :o

Okay, so my new server needs a name!

I've already got one server named "Gonzo" because it's linux based and kind of weird.

What do I call the new server?

It will eventually be the PDC for our system. I'm thinking about sticking with the muppet theme and calling it "Kermit" but I'm not sure. Should I go with something more professional like "PDC-00-2008" or something like that? I like the idea of keeping it a little more casual/memorable like "kermit" or "cookie" (on account of it's a monster). Maybe "VogonCF-1" (vogon constructor fleet 1).

    What are your thoughts?

    Alfred

another good name for a server would be Jeeves :D. A little bowtie on the front....but, Alfred at least has a Batman connection

Or, to keep the Muppet theme, Waldorf, and when you repurpose the old one, name it Statler - because you know servers always have a way of heckling us admins. :happy102

okay, it's been waaaaay too long since I've upgraded my home computer. Still running an Athlon XP 2500+. It's been a good rig, but it's time to up the power (Agh! Agh! Agh!). Really [slash]want[/slash] [slash]need[/slash] want a quad core processor, but I haven't done a major upgrade since before dual cores came out....now processors, platforms, and options have gone off in more directions than unkempt monkey grass.
It's sadly almost tempting to just buy a new computer with it all installed, configured and ready to go....but something about that just feels unethical and wrong to me! :ashamed001:happy097

So, looking at AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition processors...the mind boggleth at all the directions to go. It used to be choose the processor you want, get a compatible mobo (always Asus for me), appropriate RAM, and build.
At the root, it's still that same formula, but dadgumit all the freakin' options...guess I'm gettin' old.

    I CAN'T FIND MY BANANA!

I suppose I could call the new server "Mainframe" or "Tron"

Go with the mascot and call it "Wildcat1"

or how about MCP? And you could program it to end every statement with the phrase with "end of line."

and I still don't get the benefit of crying. wets your cheeks, hurts your vocal cords, makes everyone miserable AND YET does nothing to communicate the source of the problem. world would be much better served if kids would learn to point and use words or just remain quiet and learn to grin and bear it.

A man goes into a pub in an isolated part of Ireland. The place is full of regulars, but they make him welcome and he sits down at the bar.

    He's been
sitting there a little while, and someone says '365', and everybody bursts out laughing. The man is mystified, but says nothing. Anyway, a few minutes later, the same thing happens again: someone says '129', and all the locals
    start roaring with laughter.

After it's happened a couple more times, the man can't take it any more, and asks the barman what it's all about. 'Oh, it's perfectly simple, really' he said. 'Round here, we don't get to hear any new jokes, and we all know the same ones, so to make life a bit easier, we just numbered them, so that we don't have to keep on telling them over and over again.'

The man can see the point behind this, but it's really quite unnerving to have everybody around him laughing without knowing what's going on. Anyway, in the interests of being polite, he decides to enter
into the spirit of things, so he shouts out '621', and the pub descends into uproar as every single person in there starts laughing hysterically and rolling on the floor with tears in their eyes.

Even more mystified, the man turns to the barman again, and says 'Well, what's that joke, then? It seemed to go down
pretty well' The barman wiped the tears from his eyes and says 'Ah, that's because they've not heard that one before'.

In my area of Florida there has been a large increase in the Coyote population. Has us a little worried. In a related development the Acme Corp. has reported an increase in sales of Dynamite, spring loaded boots and rocket belts.
