Shake Sharp mk1.5, Bic Chrome Platinum, shave 4 First go round with this iteration of a Shake Sharp. The 1.5 differs from the 1.0 in that the cap attached to the razor. Razor is mild but efficient and performs better than the later 2.0 iteration. Mild but efficient and should be even better shimed like the 2.0 which I'll try out next with this razor. BBS finish achieved.
The current version of Fougere Royale is classy, conservative, has a nice tart flare and a very easy to enjoy with a hint of natural sweetness in the blend. Hmm. A scent that is stronger, more assertive, but is very similar in overall scent structure is Tom Ford's Beau de Jour. It has a potent lavender, which seems to have a very light infusion of incense. It's got an even smaller hint of sweetness and is not trying to be reserved. It speaks more boldly with a tart 'pop' that has a kind of 'bite' to it. I think Beau de Jour is more suited to spray on your Winter scarf so you catch amazing wafts of it when walking in the cold air. That's how I first knew I wanted to buy it. A store associate sprayed some Beau de Jour on a cotton ball. I walked out of the store having just purchased several bottles of another Tom Ford fragrance, Shanghai Lily. It was cold and the sun was starting to set and I was walking to my car and kept smelling the cotton ball in that brisk, cold air and it clicked. I turned around, went back to the store and bought Beau de Jour. I just needed the right context to smell the scent to know it was a 'buy'. I've earmarked this for Winter wear when I know I will have a reason to walk in the cold air again. I have the Private Blend version, but Tom Ford discontinued the Private Blend of Beau de Jour and re-released it in the Signature line. I've not smelled if it's been altered for the new bottle, but a scattered few say it's been slightly weakened. So, if you sample this in the store and love the Signature version, you might want to look around private sellers to see if you can snag a bottle of the Private Blend era. I have my suspicions that fragheads are imagining there is a difference. I bet they will smell the same if I had to place a wager. Tom Ford Beau de Jour is the closest thing to Fougere Royale that I've smelled which is different enough to not be redundant and justifiable as a buy.
