Just Pressed the Button on this Coticule Razor Hone..Its Only an Inch Wide and Just Under 7 Inches Long..He is a UK Reputable Seller & He Reckons its an Extremely Fine Coticule..I Reckon its Been Cut & Designed for Finishing SRs..;)

I Have a Barbers Coticule Finishing Stone..I Got this as a Back Up..Thats My Story & I Am Sticking to it..:happy102:

[IMG]My Newly Acquired Vintage Coticule Arrived this Morning in the Bottom Picture..Its Extremely Fine & Smooth..I Lapped it to 1000 Grit Wet n Dry the Same as My Barbers Coticule Above..The One Above Picks Up an Edge from a 12 K Super stone & Improves it with Tallow Lather..I Will Do the Same with this Newly Acquired One & See How it Performs.. ;)

I Only Use Mine as a Finisher Without Slurry..My Own Stone at the Top Does Not Auto Slurry & the Bottom One Should be the Same Hopefully..It Looks as If its Meant for Finishing Straight Razors as its Narrow & Very Fine..Many Coticules are Not Fit for Finishing an SR But a Good One Produces a Very Fine Shaving Edge on Sheffield Steel in Particular..:)

I Often Use a Cotucule as a Pre Finisher before Finishing on My Yellow Lake Oil Stone..It Produces a Remarkable Edge..I Call it a Combo Coticule/Yellow Lake Combo Finisher..:D

Oops, I haven’t been keeping up with the thread! This one should be on the way soon, seller’s images. It’s the first karasu that I’ve bought in a while.

Wow! You must have a separate room for just your stones! Good for you! I’m a collector of sharp things, but have grown very interested in keeping them sharp or sharper recently! Thank you for your posts, I’ve learned a lot!

If you get one that is for razors then yeah, very nice stones. A jnat expert told me they reminded him of nakayamas but much cheaper.
But as always, they are natural stones so it has to be tested, just the name doesnt mean anything.

The stone above arrived yesterday and the skin looks Nakayama with deep ocher and umber colors. It’s hard and fine, and I pleased that it also seems perfectly pure, no lines, cracks, sparklies, etc. The face of the stone is wet in the image below, rather a pretty face I think, but considerably more subdued when dry. The pattern also runs pretty deeply into the stone, some karasu layers are very thin.
