Gold Dollar took its first spin and I got an almost completely BBS out of it. Hollow grinds are my jam.
I have two Gold Dollars I plan on shaving with shortly, one honed by Slash McCoy (@Slash McCoy) and the other by me. I plan on shaving one side of my face with each razor. Should be a fun comparison. I bought a Crescent City razor and a $5 Gold Dollar. I set the bevel for the Gold Dollar on a Chosera 1k then to an ILR with a series of increasingly diluted slurries and finished on a jasper stone under water. Slash hones his Crescent City Gold Dollar razors on lapping films using the "Method". I fully expect his razor to shave more smoothly, but it will be an interesting learning experience for me. Honemeisters like Slash and Glen Mercurio (@gssixgun) who just restored and honed an old Boker I sent him set benchmarks I can measure my own newbie efforts against. I have been sharpening knives for decades (old knife collector), but razors are new for me. I really enjoy the zen of razor honing. Glen and Slash's videos have been quite instructive. My bride looks askance at me as I sit honing away, but I really enjoy it. You can learn and refine sharpening skills even at 73.

The Rigas making the scene the past few days were too much and I succumbed to temptation without a fight. This is such a great razor. Although today was a little less smooth than the last few shaves it was still excellent. There’s something about that much steel and heft that makes it that much more enjoyable. Wade & Butcher near wedge to take off a couple of days growth. The turquoise/horn combo scale is still hanging in there. I was up in Washington state’s Mt. Baker National Forest and ran across this sign on the way up to the volcano: My wife actually noticed it and had a quick laugh. Enjoy your shave. Tom
