    Yeah, took me a while to figure out what post-shave recovery products could be aimed at what situation. It took a little info search about barbershop use of powder and why (redness and itch reduction) and then trial and error with different products to figure out that balm or powder isn't always the answer for the post-shave. Sometimes even alum can come into play for people who have acne or shave bump issues as a prevention/treatment.

    Again, I wasn't going to shave today, but then got bit by the shaving bug when I thought about not having used my Gold Dachs mug soap in months. So, I decided to shave again today.

    So, it was a great 2-pass shave with minor touchups on spots. I applied the pre-shave oil first, then palm-lathered the mug soap and painted on the lather. This method seems to work very well with this soap. The pre-shave oil seems to make this soap less drying and more effective. I was on the fence about going to the Alum Block, but decided to just roll with my mentholated witch hazel astringent and some of the silky Advanced Clinicals balm (very affordable and good stuff). Post shave feel is like marble meets moisturizer. Smooth and silky. The Viking fragrance is top-shelf stuff. Great shave overall.
