So, about today’s shaving First of all to remind everybody what I use : Shavette : Parker SRX Blade of today : Derby Premium (those seem to be quite forgiving it seems or is it just me ?) soap : Proraso for sensitive skin Brush : Kent infinity silvertex After shave balm : Proraso for sensitive skin To sum it up : not perfect but much better than last time First of all the lather was much better, still not it, but much better I think I did load too much soap, so it still would get dry on my face after some time, but a much longer time than previously I think I’m understanding a bit more the lathering process and will surely get better after each shave As for the shave itself, I would say not bad for a first timer. I have maybe two or three cuts, but nothing bad, just a little bit Some very small parts are less shaved than the rest of my face, but it’s maybe two or three very small spots So I’m quite happy today. I think I did stay two hours in the bathroom totally haha, but I prefer to be very cautious, although at the end it was tougher to be really focused For the kind of shave that I want, I would have to go against the grain as well, but that’s not for now, one thing at a time haha The area just above the lips is one of the hardest to shave I would say, right under the chin is a little difficult too How do you guys shave above the lips, for those who use a shavette ?
Sounds like a great result Matthieu. Congrats! Taking your time is the greatest investment into the process. Above the lip and chin. Lots of wet slick lather, lots of skin stretching, very light touch. As you develop muscle/touch/angle/set down memory, the time spent will diminish....and the lather won't dry as much. It's perfectly okay to re-wet/re-swirl a face lather.
Yeah, thx ! Actually I lather in a bowl and I didn’t mention it but I did clean my face and put on some lather from the bowl like two times. That way I would get a wet lather again I have to say today’s lather felt much wetter on my face than last time and did last much longer Thx for the tips !
For anyone who ever wanted a Phoenix Ascension DOC razor, they have Stainless Steel back in stock, and the copper version is sold out. These tend to sell out and be gone for a year. https://phoenixartisanaccoutrements...afety-razor-cnc-machined-316l-stainless-steel
Thanks for the explanation Blair. It's a nice looking kami. Although it has rustproofing, I wonder if it lasts a lifetime to protect the edges of the openings on the face.
Awesome shave Andrew! Proraso may not compete with the fancy products, but it is still an excellent product.
Gillette: Red Tip w/case & blade pack and instructions unwrapped SS(C2) 1957. Blade: Wilkinson Black (3) Brush: Not sure. I think a secret Santa gift. Soap: Blood & Steel Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Shade Past Bowl: Tom White Nylon 3D Printer Black 3D Nylon bowl was showing discoloration so I painted it.
Ça va Matt! Je m'appelle Joe. Right now, I would suggest you do 2 passes with the grain. Once you get very familiar with the shavette, then I would attempt to do an across the grain on the second pass. The fool's pass which is going against the grain takes a light touch and I would not attempt until you are good with the ATG pass. The fool's pass requires two hands to stabilize the razor. I would not use a fool's pass with a fresh blade. I would wait until you have 3 shaves on the blade before doing a fool's pass.
I’m already ahead of you, my friend! Just got a new bottle of Four Roses Small Batch! It’s helped to ease the stings!
