As a classically-trained musician, I can't help but marvel at the masterful conducting of Maetro Andre Cluytens in this outstanding 1960 performance of Pictures at an Exhibition. The tuba, bassoons, alto saxophone, and muted E-flat trumpet in this recording are not voiced the same as the instruments used in today's orchestras. Some of the musicians employ vibrato on instruments where it's now uncommon to do so. This recording is such an interesting contrast to what is heard from modern-day orchestras.
