  11. Yes Jess, a bit more than 4/8 and smile.
    Actually 13mm is 0.51 inches.

I'm not sure about how much Tungsten is in there.
Not a problem to hone, and the edge is durable.
As all good steel I have. And I use just natural stones.

  13. Looks like a nice razor! I like thinner blades, although I’ve never shaved with a 4/8! Being in Europe I would suspect that thuringian and Escher slates are less expensive than they are for us here in the states.

Ya Just Need to Know What You are Looking For..The One at the Top has a 17 K Finishing Capacity No Problem..:)

  17. Congratulations, Billy! You're right about US pricing. Off the map! How were you able to recognize it as an Escher slate? Just asking as a newb interested in learning. :)

Just By Owning & Using Them..You Can See in Both Photos they are Very Similar Stones in Color & Grain..Other Thuringian Labels Did Not Produce Em as Small for Starters..Thats a Giveaway..The Color & Fine Grain are a Give Away as Well..Then it Starts to Get Complex as there were Various Colors & Sizes..I Own this Escher Thuringian Above and its a Totally Different Color & Slightly Longer..More Slate Like But Produces a 17 K Edge Easily..These were Specifically Intended for Razors..;)

Some of the Bigger Escher Stones that Ya See were Intended for Tool Makers & Tradesmen & that was Actually their Biggest Market..I Dunno How Fine they are as Never Used One..My Understanding is that the Finest/Smoothest Ones were Cut Specifically for Honing Straight Razors..But.. Experience of Handling Em & a Good Eye & Intuition Goes a Long Way..Thats Why that Stone I Just Got had 20 Odd Watchers on it..:D

Hey..I Could Be Wrong..It Might be Summit Else..There is Always an Element of Chance..When they are Not Labeled..But..I Am 99/% Confident thats an Escher Produced Stone..I Will Know for Sure when I Get it..:happy088:

Indeed it is. The mirror finish makes it hard to pick up the stamped ID on the blade. Here’s a better look:
