Very nice shave this morning with the Blackbird. The Feather was on its 5th shave and just did not feel right. Grabbed a Shark that had one shave on it and loaded it on the Bird. Not bad but not a Feather. The fall scent Soap Commander just smells great and has the good old Soap Commander performance. The Klenzo just whipped it into shape. Finished the shave with Irish Chestnut by Andy Hilfiger.

The picture was taken on an old stump in dad and mom's front yard. The rose is from a rose bush she planted years ago. It is just symbolic of how things may die and fade away but there is always new life around. Families may loose members but families do grow when new ones coming along. Enough of my sentimental ranting this morning.

Very pleased with my shave this morning. 0:30 for the load(although it looked like I had a good amount at 0:25). The swirling around of the soap was a little challenging in that I had to be sure to focus on the sides(it's getting pretty low). I didn't want to "waste" soap by going right at the bottom. I'm administering more soap than before around the areas to be shaved. How those guys in their videos do that and talk as they work astounds me. It's like the 3-stooges cartoon when they shave each other and Moe begins to sing, suddenly getting a mouthful of soap&brush! Back to talkinabout MY shave, 2 good passes, each with a lot of soap all over. I think in previous times I was sort of careless-taking the soap spreading for granted. Before moving onto my next soap I'll take a spoon and scrape some of this soap off the sides and to the bottom(as was suggested by @Trigger. ). But I'm not done with this set of the TSE(Soap Exchange). One more, maybe two shaves. Finished with the AgadirMen A.S. Looks like I have about a half of the bottle remaining(it is a 6.7 oz bottle). Top Of The World Excellent...two in a row, I believe.

Well, Mr. Cawtuh gets SOME credit....Charlie has helped me a few times with shave thingies. But right, in this particular subject it was Joe.

Well beard attempt is gone. I could see I could grow a goatee and a "chinstrap". Otherwise it would take months for who knows what results. Gone then.
PAA Ascension, two passes vs 4 days and I'm back to my usual beautiful self.

Whether or not you start using a straight razor, I would just say this.
Before the advent of the DE, ALL shavers used a straight edge. They didn't "transition" into it. They learned from their fathers, most likely. Did they cut themselves? Mos def©.
I was an adept DE shaver and I cut myself. Did I ever need stitches? Nope. Did I heal? Yup.
So, make up your own mind. It's YOUR shave. Have it your way.

Where are you? My brother lives in County Durham, love visiting there in the summer.

@Paul Turner I am with Joseph on this one. Straight razors are kinder than shavettes and cut less but the do require maintenance. You can start with just your cheeks and then finish the shave with a cart. Then as you gain confidence you go farther. There is an old wives saying that it takes 100 straight shaves to be come proficient, which was about the how many it took me. While I get the same quality shave regardless of the tool I do find straights are a little kinder to my face.

Great shave, my friend. Improving your technique with whatever kit you choose is half the fun.

You have received much advice over the past few days, Paul. I'll only add a couple of comments. First, do what makes you happy. Second, I agree with @Trigger in that whatever razor you decide to use, do so with your safety in mind. Your know yourself and your capabilities better than anyone here. Your happiness and safety mean more to me than your shaves, Paul. I will cheer you on regardless of what you decide. You are a big part of what makes the 30DC special to me.

OK, I think I'll skip my OC and instead begin a Trac II focus after I finish the blade in my Mongoose (3 more shaves left). I have one with a plastic handle that I mainly use for travel and another with a heavy metal handle that is fun to use. Since it's a cart, I'm gonna call that my disposeABLE focus. I don't like to brag, but I've been known to get some Top Of The World Excellent shaves with this razor. Mos def!

And thankfully, we can all look to our hero Spaceman Spiff for inspiration.




Just between me and you, a razor is a razor, a blade is a blade, and soap + water = lather.

That would explain why the 3-Stooges used straights(in that cartoon I talked about during my shave description). If you recall "Who Came In"(as I bet you do), you might recall the shave cartoon. But seriously, I think my Dad was mostly an electric shave type. I certainly learned THAT skill from him Once in a while he'd do a SE, and I think he must have helped me with SOME aspects of it. But from the time I began college, I knew I'd be "on my own", and I think that is when I began doing disposeABLEs, and never looked back. (Course I'd shave at home during vacations, but I guess I must have been past the point of learning from him.) I'm glad you never needed stitches for your cuts.

Cold shave today all all the way. With the evening temperatures dipping into the 50's now, the tap water is feeling colder - making the cold water shaves even colder. The LEA cream has a moderate level of menthol and the Spanish Williams has about the same as the US version.

3 passes with the Merkur provided a comfortable and efficient shave this morning. This razor was the 2nd DE I ever bought and the start to my continued razor exploration. Its neutral (almost negative) blade exposure would make it an excellent daily driver for those with sensitive skin.

I am a recent Oud fan too, Joe. Excellent shave today!
