Nice to hear from you Fuzzy!
Hope everything is good in your world down south.
Hope all the hurricanes didn't mess with you to much.

I think some shavers use the handle as the pressure adjustment of the razor.
Being a head shaver, I know the folly of that kind of technique.
If that works for them... so be it.

I'm glad to see your still around.
    Take care of yourself!

    Ahhhhh!
Now we get to the real meat and potatoes part of this thread.

Be notified, I might want one of those to own for my pesonel use.
    I haven't found a razor described like that I haven't liked.
    ;)

I have a Yaqi Helmet which I use as a daily driver and a new feather blade each time.
I've been described as a masochist for this by some who own such a tool.
But I find this combo gives me the best shave without any issues.

I can't wait to try one!
    Thank you!

It's a cheat. Heavy handle, more pressure, light handle, less pressure. It's a work-around to avoid having to use shims to increase aggressiveness.
    Uh...yeah, that.

Hello all and the last trial razor is in the book.
A Leresche Modèle No. 901 slant.

    20201011_150148.jpg
This razor is more to my liking as Ryan suspected.
I got a clean, smooth shave with little effort.
I'd call this on a medium high as things go.
I had to shave with only one hand today because my left shoulder is out of sorts. It kept me up most of the night, I also can't raise it up more than a few inches from my side.
But never the less I got a good shave.
3 passes on the head and 3 passes on the face.
So some medicine and a cream has helped, be better tomorrow.

All in all a great week to say the least.
I'm now the proud owner of 2 more slants soon to be 3, to add to my growing collection.
Only these slants are one of a kind, for now anyway.
At least they are very unique, I like!

    So just to make sure.
I keep the one Leresche and the single ring?
    I send the rest back.

    Thanks again.

    Till next packedge.

You keep the one Leresche and the single ring. You hang on to the rest for now. If I can't get another pass-around started by mid Nov. on another forum, you send them back to me. Otherwise, they will move on to the next person.

    Ok...
I'll just hold them a few weeks, or till you advise me otherwise.
    Thanks!

Horse feathers. Shims too ( unless it is one of those razors you have to modify the blade for). That is all technique driven.

Hey there. They did not get to us here much. My Sister took a beat down in Lake Charles though. Glad to see your still going.

Sorry to hear about your sister.
I most certainly hope she'll be ok.

I keep going, it's been to hot and I'm to busy for hunting so far up here.
Gonna bag a few squirrels when it gets cooler out.

I got a Yaqui Katana DE razor that uses split DE blades.
So far, it's the best split blade SE razor I've tried.
If you find one for a good price you might catch the bug and grab it.
My technique has got even better than even I thought possible.
Still shave every day, head and face.
Well take care of yourself and all your people down there.

    Till next time...

I have heard some good things about that razor. I am going to try a squirrel hunt later in the week. The therma cell will be in use.
Great to hear about the technique!! Always great to hear from you.

Some of us just want an easy, mindless shave. Not contradicting what you're saying, just pointing out that not everyone who uses these razors has developed that level of skill yet.

Otherwise, you might as well just tell everybody to shave with devettes, and any issues they might have is just a matter of "technique." Which would be perfectly true, when it comes down to it.

There's good and valid reasons why straight razor shaving isn't how most people remove facial hair these days. Most of which boil down to a lack of skill.

    Hi all!
Just a minute to chime in on the razor Ryan sent me.
    A Devette slant.
IF you get told that you don't need the safety bar on a razor.
Whoever explains this to you, look them strait in the eye, then say...

    Your Right!
    20201023_070612.jpg
Got a great 3 pass head, 3 pass face shave this morning.
One bump on the neck that just won't go away got grazed again and one that appeared overnight.
Not much leakage but there they are.
Other than that I'm clean, smooth and loving the results.
I'll use this little tool a few days.
    Very nice!

Had 2 devette slant heads in the shipment from Ryan @PLANofMAN so out #2 head comes out.

No issues with this and the shave was the same as the first one.
Nice 3 pass head and 3 pass face shave.
I'm learning bunches about shaving, razors and me.
No need for the safety bar for me.
No problem with a slant devette for me.
I like there's razors, they are my cup of tea.
I guess you need a good handle on technique if your gonna try these type of razors.
Me, I never thought I would use a razor this even less, like them as I do.
It's not for the faint of heart, not for the first timer.
Not for those who may not be confident of their abilities.
It showed me where I'm at in my journey to shave nirvana, lol.
    Great razors, fantastic shaves.

    Thanks.

That was my experience with devettes as well. They give a good shave, it's DE shaving without training wheels. I guess I figured a slant devette would be a bit more "bitey" than a normal devette.

Not sure of that bitey thing.
It's seems these can be less abrasive than Tom's s creation simply because the blade is at a small angle in comparison.
Tom's you have to have a high angle of attack, these are angled slightly so the angle of attack is slightly different.
Tom's shaves better than a R41 because (IMO) you can do serious cap riding without the blade lifting off the skin.
The shave and feel are the same when correctly adjusted for on the slant or Tom's creation.
    So no difference there.
The slant thing I'm not sure it makes any difference.
After getting clean perfect cutting action from the blade, where can you go from there.
It might make the razor glide better because the steel is more solid compared to a linear blade.
But the jury is still out on that.
I have noticed that feather blades do not stay deformed after use in slants, compared to some blades.
I am now a big believer in open blade shaving.
When I first started this a few years ago, I never in my wildest shaving dreams, thought I'd be using such tool to shave with.
I'm glad that I tried these.
I feel lucky that I was allowed to try these razor blade holders.
Those who like straight and shavette shaving should try out devetts.

A blade on A stick, with a twist.
    All good.
    Thanks Ryan!
