I can see why you've been looking for that one. It's very modern looking for a razor that was new in 1825. The equivalent of finding a Model A Ford from the turn of the century with something that looked like a modern Tesla body instead of Model A coachwork. The closest modern analogy would probably be a Lars Iversson pipe. Danish freehand, distinctive, instantly recognizable.

The hump in the tang, the short tail, and massive curve are enough to put it in the late 1700's to early 1800's, without more references. You seldom get more than that with razors that old.
And some more peroux cognet talisman 13/16, fr herder 88 5/8, two swedish frameback one marked engström (the other one looks the same). They were stored together.
I had noticed the elegant curve to the spine, but I didn't think the tail looked that short. Then again, one of my primary razors is a Joseph Rogers from the mid 19th that has a very stubby tail, so I guess I just have gotten used to it...

Picked up a Shumate 5/8 at a local antique store. Put a jasper edge on it. Are Shumates decent razors. All I know is that they were sold out of St. Louis from 1901 - 1932.

Jeff, I enjoy the two I have, the Shuraco and a Barber De Luxe. They seem to have a nice fit and finish. The Shuraco is really light with the size, grind, and especially the MOP inserts in the tang. I always have one eye out for an early Shumate out of Austin, TX.

Thanks, Tom! I paid virtually nothing for it! It seems to have taken a great edge! By that I mean the bevel and edge look pretty much identical under my USB microscope to some of my best shaving razors! We’ll see how it shaves in a day or two!
