Needing a new new soap. I love the old time barber shop scent but looking to,well, explore i should say, so any ideas or recommendations would be much appreciated.

You have a lot of options, and you'll find many different opinions here. For starters, what scents do you like?

Central Texas Soaps offers a nice barbershop scent...it's called Grandpa's Barbershop.

Can't go wrong with Stirling. This is my go-to. Their samples are the huge and are closer to what it's like to load your brush from a tub. Others give you small containers for samples.

I would also recommend Zingari Man. Ariana and Evans and Barrister and Mann are good one's too.

That is a good scent. I have the AS from the traveling box.

Here’s some of my favorite shave soaps and their scents.
Wickham Magnum - citrus and musk
Wet The Face Pipe Smoke - pipe tobacco
    PAA Tombstone - gunpowder leat

Hi....I was attracted to Tombstone until I read Smitty's description the scent of "opiates" in there. Someone later, in an attempt to calm me down, said it's hard to smell it, as it is well-mixed with the good stuff. What do you say about this????

I don’t detect any opiates in the scent profile. I mainly smell leather, gunpowder and Rose.

Well, either he mashed it in real hard(the opiate smell), or he was just being silly.

CBL makes some great performing soaps for the $$.

They offer some barbershop scents in their line up too.

Probably be easier to ask what not to buy.

I recommend The Soap Opera Himalaya Shave Soap. Very good and reasonably priced. Sego Lily Shaving Soap is another great soap. This post tells how you can order it until they get their online store back up.

Lost my sense of smell to COVID-19 last week. Hope it comes back. My nephew lost it for a month. That said, I’m doing well so far.

it’s hard to go wrong with a barbershop type of soap. My favorites are barrister and man, but I have bought many bars from Sterling. These last a long time so I haven’t gotten around to many of the others, but you have so many good options. Good luck. The fun will be in the searching.

In terms of pure performance, no one beats Saponifico Verisino. I personally don't care for most of their scents, but they are unmatched in longevity, ease of lathering, and skin care.

A close runner-up is Barrister & Mann. They tend to go for the classic vintage scent profiles, and also make a decent performing soap. Saponifico soaps will outlast B&M soaps by a factor of 3 or 4 times as long, if not longer.
