NOvember 17th RR V3 OC Hawk w Feather Pro Stirling Finest/Maple Soap Commander Endurance Thayers Shulton Old Spice AS Still rotating through the gear. Getting close on brushes, but I'm sheepishly acknowledging that razors will go almost right to the end of the month and software will for sure. Its only a problem if I think its a problem, though... Anyway, the Old Spice combo was very nice earlier this morning. Great lather with an ok dupe, followed by the much deeper and richer Shulton original. A few folks have commented that this razor doesn't feel very smooth for them, but I really like it. Apparently I save all my poor technique for the Katana. 3 nice passes left me quite smooth. A little splash of the cologne before I headed out the door? Why not. Loud and Proud. Have a great day all!
I am impressed with that shave Paul. You are doing great this week.....keep doing what you are doing.
NOVember Barrister and Mann Bay Rum~~Rubberset 400/3~~G. Wostenholm Said goodbye to an old friend today. Got a lot of great shaves from this tub. Anyone considering a Bay Rum soap, would do themselves a favor by at least considering this brand. Next up, I received this Wosty in yesterday's mail and my plan was to send it off to Glen, however, I thought to myself...what the heck, I am going to put a new edge on it. I cleaned the scales with a toothbrush and some Dawn. I used some 1000 grit steel wool to clean up the steel. Then I went to the stones. Started with a 1K Naniwa and worked my way through my 4/8K Norton. Then moved to my 12K Naniwa and finally my 16K Shapton. Did about 60-80 laps on the leather strop and went to the face. Now, there is some uneven hone wear to one side of the blade. That could have been from me, but it's just as likely that it was already there. Be that as it may, how did it shave???? Well, great! No worse than any razor I have had professionally honed. My cheeks are BBS as is my jawline. My neck is the same DFS+ So, there you have it. Primo's still no honemeister, but he's no slouch, either. Finished the shave with some C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum.
Excellent Old Spice shave, Jason! I smelled Soap Commander Endurance somewhere (can't recall) and didn't think it was a great scent. I've never smelled original Shulton, so don't have a comparison point. Stirling Spice was much stronger but again not sure how close to the original.
Congrats on the honing and a fine shave as well as finishing off the soap! I have yet to try any Barrister and Mann.
Thank you, Perry. I had quite a few dupes before getting the Shulton original. To my nose, by far the closest match is Barrister's Reserve Spice (way closer than the current P&G offering, fwiw). Both Stirling Spice and this Soap Commander product are ok, but without sounding stuffy, do lack a depth that the original has. Avon Spicy is closer to the original than SC or Stirling as well.
Thanks for the info, Jason. That's good to know. As I said a little earlier I have yet to try any Barrister and Mann products. Probably shouldn't, either, since I'm trying to reduce my den!
