I remember as if it had happened yesterday the emotion felt fifty-seven years ago: I was moving from one classroom to another when the news of Jack Kennedy's assassination arrived.
It is difficult to realize, at the moment, when you are living an epochal event...
I remember, I don't know why, the comment of a girl -Let's hope it wasn't the communists, otherwise it's WW III!-
And I remember thinking, with the selfishness of a seventeen year old boy, that I had missed the opportunity to meet the President: a short time before, we foreign students in the Washington D.C. area, six or seven, had been invited to Andrews Air Force Base to meet Kennedy who was about to embark to go to Dallas to a football game, but, we were told, that some issues arisen in Viet Nam who requested his presence at the White House.
So all that was possible was to take a group photo on the Air Force One boarding ladder.
Later we were invited to the White House, where I shook Johnson's hand, but... he was not Kennedy and a thousand people was not the same thing!
More banal and less memorable my shaving today that, as most of the times, does not deserve special comments.
