SOTD MONDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 30, 2020

Welcome to a dreary, rain-soaked Monobilt Monday! For today’s shave I broke out a few stalwart members of my shave kit that I just don’t use enough! The Cooper Monobilt, first and foremost amongst them, followed by the Riga Razor 7/8, sadly the only modern straight razor I own, and what used to be a regular feature of all my shaves for half a century, Williams Aqua Velva. The hard-working, bargain basement Rooney Badger generated the two MWF lathers I like to shave with, and the result was as expected, a velveteen smooth, cool, refreshing result. As George Peppard in his A-Team TV character Hannibal Smith used to say, “I love it when a plan comes together”!

I’ve grown very fond of my vintage shave tools, and have been neglecting my modern artisan safety razors. I rarely shave with my Karve, my Rex Ambassador, my brand new Fine New LC homage, and my Blackland Tradere sits alone in its box along with several others. So this next month I will have a series of dome shaves with these razors to help me decide which will stay and which will go. My shaves with the Riga straight razor are ok, but just don’t compare to some of my favorite vintage straights. That may be an edge issue, so I’m going to have the edge refinished by my son, Ben, on his jnat progression, and see if that makes a difference. Enjoy your shaves, my shave brothers and sisters!

RAZOR: Riga Razor 7/8 (Mug), Cooper Monobilt (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Aqua Velva (Spanish Version) and A&E Post-Shave Serum.
  2. I'd be up for that. I'll see if I can find a suitable candidate. :D

  3. That's a good idea, but I don't have any ugly razors. However, I nominate Dec. 13 as the day because 13 is considered yucky (ugly) number.

  4. Fine pic, shave and post, Jeff! By the way, I do recall that you have another modern straight razor. It is your Dovo Special.

  5. Very nice, Jeff!

  6. Is that considered modern? I thought Dovo was bankrupt and out of business?

SS & AS Stirling Christmas Eve

    Welcome Monday morning!

It's going to be a great week and it started with a great shave. I really like the Israeli Reds and the Christmas Eve is getting me in the holiday spirit. My wife even put some of the AS on so she could smell like Christmas.

Happy Holidays and enjoy you week everyone!

  9. Monday's Shave

    MÜHLE R89
    Gillette Platinum (3)
    Wild West Brushworks
    LEA Mentholated Shaving Cream
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Epsilon Blue Aftershave

We made it back home to the ATL late yesterday afternoon after driving in the steady rain the entire way. I did not post my shave yesterday, but it was with the same LEA travel setup and it was another fine result. This morning, I switched to the huge tube of LEA for Menthol Monday. I don't have near as many creams as I do soaps, but this one is definitely one of my favorites.
The MÜHLE I am using today is my only "89" style razor head. I found it at Marshalls last year and really haven't used it much at all, which is a shame because it's a smooth shaver.
Two passes and some touch-ups provided a very chilly, comfortable and efficient shave this morning. A healthy dose of Epsilon for the finish was icing on the cake.

I've really enjoyed participating in the 30DC thread this month. I'm thankful for the friendships here and for all of you making this such a unique, fun and informative place.
