  1. You need the address for the Combe Co. They own JB Williams company. They bought them in 2002.

  3. Great shave, Keith! That's a wootz steel blade isn't it? I know that's one of Snail Forge's specialties. Sorry the shave wasn't as good as you'd hoped!

  5. Great shave Chris. I was traveling when you asked about other's stropping routines. I usually strop my razors immediately before using, sometimes right before I shower, then shave, sometimes after I shower, and I've lathered once (to enjoy the lather while I strop). Number of laps.....I use somewhat of an order, not really a number, just based on how I remember the razor shaving the previous time. Most of the time it's linen strop laps followed by leather strop laps. Sometimes....before that it could be CrOx on linen, then linen, then leather. For all you'd ever want to know...there are some stropping threads in our TSD straight razor forum, but if there's a craving for even more, SRP has an entire sub forum devoted to stropping only SRP Stropping Forum

Love the pass details Keith. Cool razor and setup.

  7. Monday's Shave

    PAL Injectomatic
    Personna Blade
    Wild West Brushworks 'Renaissance'
    Stirling Orange Chill Shaving Soap
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Fine Italian Citrus Aftershave

Just for the sake of continuing the warm water prep experiment, this morning I started with a warm, wet washcloth on my face. Once again, it did not seem to adversely affect the final result at all.
3 passes with the PAL injectomatic provided a comfortable and efficient result this morning with n o irritation or mishaps. Finishing off with a cold water rinse and Fine Italian Citrus still made it a chilly shave for a chilly morning.

  9. we agree that the Goodwill and the other razors from that era are good shavers and fun for the history they represent.

:) A 10 foot tree here would be $150+ this year. That's for a farm-grown tree. We cut our own tree the first couple years we were married. That's an all day activity for us. Have to get as far away from SLC as possible to get a good tree. I don't think that's as much of a problem in eastern BC.

:) I have a few Kai blades. I'll try them and let you know my thoughts.
Yes, it doesn't last long. I do like the scent. Mild and pleasant.
Thanks Blair! I don't think Frasiers are as common here as most of our trees come out of Oregan or Washington. The two we see most often are Grand or Noble. From what I saw $70 would have been a really good price for either this year. We typically pay $50 and get a Noble if we can in that price range or a Grand fir, which don't look quite as nice but are so fragrant. I paid more this year for a Noble. I suppose for the same reason more people are buying trees. We just want to splurge
Ha! sounds legit to me. Ben needs you around more, if he doesn't agree with you, I'll tell him. :) We've realized my daughter may not have many Christmasses at home. We still marry pretty young in Utah. Most of her cousins were married by 22. Yes, my daughter has 40 cousins so the sample size is pretty large. Anyway, we're not skimping since we really don't know how many we'll have with her home.
Thanks, planning to compare them. I'll let you know.

  10. I think the brass finish looks great as is, especially with that handle. But, I am sure it would look great re-plated too. Excellent work making that razor, Danny!

  13. Well today Is Monday, December 7th 2020, also known as Pearl Harbor Day. Tonight I decided to skip out on the menthol, as usually Monday's are reserved for menthol shaves in my den. It's the holiday season and I have not touched bay rum in months now. So for tonight's shave I used Stirling Bay Rum shave soap. once again the Gillette red tip which now I consider a piece of decadent gear. this will be my 4th use and final use on this Voskhod blade. The blade was a little dull on this shave, so some of the smoothness was lacking, ended up with a few little weepers that stopped bleeding pretty quickly. once again though, a very BBS shave. used Clubman Bay Rum for the aftershave, has a nice mild burn and scent. Used Beard Guys beard oil to moisturize and soften up my face and applied modern P&G old spice as a light cologne to finish everything off. Hope everyone had a great start to their week! :)

  18. @clint64 and @JACarbone :

The shave stick does have a different scent than the Classic aftershave to my nose. It is part of a different line and I suppose is a more "updated" scent.
The stick has a modern fresh/clean scent and not very strong (very nice though). It still pairs well with the Classic aftershave. The LEA stick also shares the same scent with the 3 in 1 balm and the Zero% alcohol aftershave splash that I have from them.

Surprisingly, the LEA Classic aftershave reminds me of 4711 and DR Harris Arlington.
