Thanks Bruce and hope you are doing well, also! I believe you can tell the difference between intermediate blades and very sharp blades when they are right out of the pack. Also, the perception of sharpness also depends on the razor and the beard/skin type of the shaver. Personally, Feathers are the sharpest blade that I have used and it's reputation is not hype.

Due to his blue scales, I have finally realized Mad Max is not Mad Maxine and from this day forward will be addressed with the masculine pronoun.

For ugly razor day, I chose:

    - ugly but effective open comb
    - ugly tin of spiced orange, though a really nice soap inside the tin
    - my ugliest boar brush

It was an excellent shave without a bit of irritation or nicks. I could easily use this razor every day and not complain, although I do like some variety.

    Doing ok here, thanks!
Normally I can tell, or at least think I can, when it comes to a Feather in a DE razor. Sometimes I have to wonder if it's a "placebo effect", knowing that it's a Feather loaded in the razor, and my mind tells me it's sharper. It does make me wonder, if my wife were to load random blades in a DE if I'd notice? Maybe an experiment for the future...

For the last several weeks, I've been using the Blackbird, and have used a number of different blades in it (not Feather though). To be truthful, I wouldn't fall down the steps for the difference (is that even a nationwide saying, or just something from my neck of the woods?). They've all felt the same, and performed the same. Granted, most of them fall in the intermediate category (Voskhod, Astra, etc.). Maybe I'll have to toss a Feather in and give it a run, just for the heck of it. One thing Feathers aren't known for is longevity. They seem to drop off much faster than some others.

But, in the shavette? No noticeable difference for me, from Derby to Feather.

I'm not trying to spark an argument or create controversy, but merely pointing out that we all have different perceptions when it comes to shaving - be it razors, blades, soaps, and so on. In the end, we try different products and figure out what we like, and what we don't. It's kinda interesting to see what others enjoy using, and why.

For me, blades are blades with only very subtle differences between them. I use and will continue to use any blade in any razor because for me it doesn't affect the outcome of the shave.
