A lot of funny shirts and memes came up with I did an image search of "cnc machine operators funny". They are nearly as quirky as engineers. I have gotten the same "deadpan" and intimidation feedback at different times. IMO, it's just another tool in the toolkit. I heard a story about one of our managers who adjusted his office chair "up" and his other chairs in his office "down" so that he could be more imposing over anyone coming to see him.
