good morning gents..fabulous 2+ pass bbs shave this morning with the 4th gen aristocrat.mildest of the bunch and quite similar to the rocket hd shave wise.same head.spoiler blade holding up just fine.lovely navigator lather built with the EEmega 10098 boar.twisted thayers and polo blue to finish..awesome....

has been quite a year for most folks .trying times indeed.some here have endured painful loss of family,friends,jobs,some lives changed forever.we here have made it through a tough year,though not unscathed, one way or another.. i am most thankful that i was able to hang out here,kept my sanity for the most part and plod along.to everyone of you fine gentlemen,thank you for being here and putting up with my shenanigans..you are all a special bunch,and this is a special place.i start my 5th year here in a day or so.looking forward to a better 2021..

I'm in for a NB21. Discussed over the past two days my project with Derek @ J3Customs. Completed the $, delivery in ~30 days hopefully.

This will complete a 7 day set of open edge razors for me, all from one artisan, but every razor unique with his talents of forging steel, carving, grinding, heat coloring, polishing (or not), etc. It'll be a 10/8 smiling blade.

This was another way to do things I saw on another forum. Forget what the called it but they had a thread devoted to it where people chose 1 or 2 exceptions and a dollar amount they allowed themselves to spend for the whole year. Beyond that sales of things had to be made BEFORE any new purchases after draining their stated allowance.

I decided to do another hot water shave today and use my reverse method of lathering. I have to say that I quickly got a nice, creamy, slick lather. I decided to chase the baby because I wanted to end the last shave of the year with a bang. Two and a half passes gave me a beautiful BBS shave without any errors. Applied the WH, the ASB and the AS to finish this shave.

Happy New Year to all on this last morning of this horrible year! Good riddance to 2020! I decided to end this year with two of my favorite razors! The R. Saito SK3 was always a decent shaver, but the touch up on the new Naniwa 12k Super Stone with a final polish on the jasper stone yesterday, has led me to what seems my grail edge! The mug shave was buttery smooth. The dome shave featured my favorite DE razor, hands down, the Colonial Silversmith! The Evans brothers, Kyle and Kirk, broke the mold on this one. I never fail to get a superb shave with this razor! It’s a real shame more folk don’t know about it. I’ve shaved with Timeless, CG, Karve, H&S75, and Tradere, but none have matched the combination of efficiency and smoothness I experience every time I shave with this DE razor. Please don’t get me wrong, all of the latter delivered good solid shaves, but for me the Silversmith just shaves perfectly! Equipped with a Feather blade, it’s amazing and shaves every bit as close as my AC safety razors. I’ve finished 2020 clean, refreshed and velveteen smooth!

thank you Dave..i moved 30+ gillettes recently so i have a bit of a stash.to be honest there wasn't much out there for me to blow $$ on compared to previous years..my brit gillette collection is complete and i have at least one each of the recent "big news" soap bases..there are some i don't have but .really....my only concern is a new hobby coming along....

I've quietly had an unmentioned focus for this month - hot water prep. I've been a cold water shaver for about two years and chose to do so in in effort to reduce irritation. Now that my technique has improved, it doesn't really seem to make a difference. The focus this month initially started as a one off experiment and after having good results the first few times, I decided to continue for the entire month. Results were positive and I think I will continue with a hot water prep and cold water finish to the shaves going forward. It is a much more relaxing and comfortable experience, although I may use some cold water shaves in the hot months of the year. The hot water prep I've employed consists of a very damp hot washcloth held over my face for about 15 seconds with immediate face lathering afterwards. This requires me to load the brush with soap before the hot water treatment. The mug I use to dip my brush tips is also filled with hot water and I may even look into buying a brush scuttle in the future.

As for today's shave, I used a new brush that I picked up on Amazon. It has a 20mm Manchurian 2-band badger knot that punches well above it's weight class. I like its performance and for $11 it is a steal. Excellent D.R. Harris lather ensued after a 60 second brush loading.

2+ easy passes with the Mühle provided a comfortable and efficient result this morning with no irritation or mishaps. The "+" pass signifies the extra pass I've been doing over the mustache/goatee area of the face all month (it makes wearing a face mask more pleasant as there's no sandpaper resistance).

I don't know what 2021 will hold for all of us and I try to not focus on those things beyond my control. I'd like to say that I have enjoyed participating in this group and I value your friendships and positivity demonstrated each and every day.

I was up and moving very early this morning. With no idea what to use for the shave I decided to keep the hardware the same and go with La Toja. La Toja is a fantastic cream. It flat works well with an excellent post shave feel. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect BBS. I buffed my lower right neck but still couldn't catch the little guy. After a morning at work, I was able to pick up lunch for the ladies and will take off the remainder of the day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

December is always a very stressful work month for me. With that being the case, I like to use products that work easily for me. I certainly did that this month and even added a new favorite to the mix with the Yates Razor. The Yates is a fantastic razor but the H plate really moved it up another level. It will be the cause of several razors leaving the den. It was nice to welcome some new faces to the 30DC during December. As always one of the better parts of the month was the friendship, courtesy and fellowship exhibited daily on this thread. Thank you guys for being a refuge in these trying times. Gave this razor to my Father-in-Law years ago and borrowed it as I've been contemplating getting one. I wanted to know if it was a razor I'd use fairly often as I don't collect just to own razors but only if they are going to be used. These are gorgeous pieces of history and they always catch my eye. I got a great shave but it just isn't as smooth/comfortable to me as the Long Comb so I'm back on the fence and backed away from the want to get one mindset........................for now Maybe I'll just send my Long Comb out for a re-plating. The 1508.5 continues with the Sweet Orange Chili Pepper that was whipped into an amazing lather due to an overloading of the knot. I need to focus on loading much more soap, especially with a boar knot. Days activities are in the air but getting new tires on the wife's vehicle is needed so that's a possibility. Good Morning!

First outing with the 921-M. Took me a few strokes to find an effective cutting angle. Muscle memory takes me directly to a shallow angle. Nothing doing. I had to really drop the handle to get the blade to make skin contact. Small sweet spot but once I found it I got a terrific shave. Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

Well, this was a Throwback Thursday shave that didn't go as well as I'd hoped. Remember earlier, when I said I want ALL my Throwback Thursdays to be outta this world or super duper. Today-not quite so. 0:30 to load the soap onto the Maggard brush, then I did an additional 0:10. In the field of mathematicia(I mean, after all, isn't one who is skilled in math called a mathematician??), that would be a total of 0:40 for the load. Nice sweeping motion across the face and neck. BUT THEN......a cut at the usual location of N.W. Porcupine Alley. 1st pass cuts force me to spend the majority of the shave looking at the thing in the mirror. As I sit here now though, it's well under control. That cut was the only issue of the shave-but a big one of course. I'm making SOME headway with the Jeeves Bay Rum soap, as you can tell it's opening up some in the middle of the puck(as all shave soaps do, I suppose). Good work along the cheeks&sideburns. S. Porcupine looks good(jaw area, essentially). Cactus nation good, save for the ingrown-hair area(I'm convinced that's why I can't kill off that specific area). Work in progress for that. The Stephan Bay Rum A.S. felt(and still feels)nice. Most Excellent.

I decided to chase the baby because I wanted to end the last shave of the year with a bang. Two and a half passes gave me a beautiful BBS shave without any errors. Applied the WH, the ASB and the AS to finish this shave.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 31, 2020

Happy New Year to all on this last morning of this horrible year! Good riddance to 2020! I decided to end this year with two of my favorite razors! The R. Saito SK3 was always a decent shaver, but the touch up on the new Naniwa 12k Super Stone with a final polish on the jasper stone yesterday, has led me to what seems my grail edge! The mug shave was buttery smooth. The dome shave featured my favorite DE razor, hands down, the Colonial Silversmith! The Evans brothers, Kyle and Kirk, broke the mold on this one. I never fail to get a superb shave with this razor! It’s a real shame more folk don’t know about it. I’ve shaved with Timeless, CG, Karve, H&S75, and Tradere, but none have matched the combination of efficiency and smoothness I experience every time I shave with this DE razor. Please don’t get me wrong, all of the latter delivered good solid shaves, but for me the Silversmith just shaves perfectly! Equipped with a Feather blade, it’s amazing and shaves every bit as close as my AC safety razors. I’ve finished 2020 clean, refreshed and velveteen smooth!

I've quietly had an unmentioned focus for this month - hot water prep. I've been a cold water shaver for about two years and chose to do so in in effort to reduce irritation. Now that my technique has improved, it doesn't really seem to make a difference. The focus this month initially started as a one off experiment and after having good results the first few times, I decided to continue for the entire month. Results were positive and I think I will continue with a hot water prep and cold water finish to the shaves going forward. It is a much more relaxing and comfortable experience, although I may use some cold water shaves in the hot months of the year. The hot water prep I've employed consists of a very damp hot washcloth held over my face for about 15 seconds with immediate face lathering afterwards. This requires me to load the brush with soap before the hot water treatment. The mug I use to dip my brush tips is also filled with hot water and I may even look into buying a brush scuttle in the future.

As for today's shave, I used a new brush that I picked up on Amazon. It has a 20mm Manchurian 2-band badger knot that punches well above it's weight class. I like its performance and for $11 it is a steal. Excellent D.R. Harris lather ensued after a 60 second brush loading.

2+ easy passes with the Mühle provided a comfortable and efficient result this morning with no irritation or mishaps. The "+" pass signifies the extra pass I've been doing over the mustache/goatee area of the face all month (it makes wearing a face mask more pleasant as there's no sandpaper resistance).

I don't know what 2021 will hold for all of us and I try to not focus on those things beyond my control. I'd like to say that I have enjoyed participating in this group and I value your friendships and positivity demonstrated each and every day.

I was up and moving very early this morning. With no idea what to use for the shave I decided to keep the hardware the same and go with La Toja. La Toja is a fantastic cream. It flat works well with an excellent post shave feel. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect BBS. I buffed my lower right neck but still couldn't catch the little guy. After a morning at work, I was able to pick up lunch for the ladies and will take off the remainder of the day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

December 2020 Recap

December is always a very stressful work month for me. With that being the case, I like to use products that work easily for me. I certainly did that this month and even added a new favorite to the mix with the Yates Razor. The Yates is a fantastic razor but the H plate really moved it up another level. It will be the cause of several razors leaving the den. It was nice to welcome some new faces to the 30DC during December. As always one of the better parts of the month was the friendship, courtesy and fellowship exhibited daily on this thread. Thank you guys for being a refuge in these trying times. Last shave of Decadent DEcember, and obviously of 2020. This month’s focus had me using some fave DEs that hadn’t seen enough usage lately. This Barbasol is just a superb shaver.
I also used 6 software combos in rotation all month. That worked out quite well, actually.

I agree on this combo, Joe. I got the A&E soap in a trade with Gary, but wasn’t really sure what I’d pair with it. Tried the Shulton (never a bad idea...) with it and was impressed from shave one.

What are your shaving plans for December?

I will break out my most decadent gear and really have at it.

I am going to mix it up, shaving with whatever suits my fancy.

I am going to adhere to the 30 Day rule.

December is my month to focus on one particular piece of equipment.

I am going to look for the BEST Christmas cookie recipe.
