This is the only John & William Ragg razor I own not named, “Napoleon.” The use of the full name for William vs. Wm makes me think this is earlier 1800s. My swoopy ivory one was tagged as an 1825 when it was sold from the Ragg family collection. It also is stamped with the longer version of the name - hence my guess at age. Anyhow, it’s barely a quarter hollow and a little more work than a hollower grind but a wonderful result Hot water preparation Argan Oil PSO Shavemac 2-Band Silvertip Badger Ethos Lisse Collection Lavender John & William Ragg The Paragon Razor 6/8 Ethos Lisse Collection Lavender Skin Food Splash Happy shaving - Karl
User Novodur 14, soap was MdC agrumes lathered with a Keyhole 4, and a splash of Myrsol limon made for a great pairing with the soap. Refreshing and relaxing plus BDBS!
A pair of Dollars, details in the honing thread. Soap and balm were I C Mango Oil and Rhubarb balm, lathered with a Keyhole 3. Not much difference in the edges! The shave was excellent and mild, so I am BDBS.
Today was a shave with my heartthrob razor of all time. It is a nearly identical grind to the Paragon I last used. It is curvier however. I wanted to see how they compared and they shave very similar which was no surprise. Not the greatest first pass WTG reduction but very nice finish. I’d say today’s Napoleon was a slightly better shave than the Paragon. A newly restored, and honed razor, made in Germany, for the French market. I had on of the sharpest and smoothest 2 pass shaves, in a long time, that resulted in a BDBS shave. Zero issues from this razor. BTW, I finished this on a new stone I received from England, by way of Scotland, an Eschers Thuringian stone. Razor- "Charlior". E.M.D.E.factory, Germany. Feels like Swedish Silver Steel. Brush- An @oscar11 creation. Synthetic knot. Wonderful brush. Soap- ARKO. Aftershave- Florida Water.
J. Engstrom, soap was Valobra fougere lathered with a Rooney beehive, and a splash of Myrsol AB finished things up.
