  3. I went to cold water to reduce irritation after I started wetshaving. After picking up the open edge, I started liking hot again. So, mostly hot these days.

  4. Thank you Joe. When I was single, drop dead gorgeous in a woman covered just about any other issue. :D

    Thank you Jeff.

Thank you Gary. Asha and I had a great time with my Mom.

Thank you Dave. With the way I loved the Masamune, I thought I would love the Nodachi even more. Didn't work out that way. I have three on the list now, so I will make some photos late next week or weekend.

Thank you Blair. I am kind of over the just OK razors.

    Thank you Joe.

  5. I have never been able to understand how folks could enjoy a cold water shave, something I have only done in the military. When I wake up in the morning, I want a cozy warm shave. Cold water just seems harsh. Nice to see you were able to return to a hot water shave.

Chris - enjoying learning, whatever the subject

  8. When I was learning straights, I watched one of Glen Mercurio’s videos where he was demonstrating his interpretation of a ‘shave test’ for razor sharpness.

His routine was to pre-lather his face then do stropping and stuff. He would then apply a hot towel/washcloth right on top of his lather and hold it there. Then re-lather and shave.

I tried it and liked it. I found it pleasant and to seemingly make a less than perfect edge work more efficiently.

Now, I don’t think I want steaming hot towels or dull razors, but I like this and think it helps. It has become my preferred method.

  9. I know that these possibilities were highly unlikely, but maybe the blade wasn't a good match for the razor, the blade wasn't properly machined or the razor wasn't fully locked.

  11. I have treated myself with hot towel shaves and it is quite relaxing. I believe the warm water makes the bristles softer and easier to cut. However, there is a case for cold water shaves to make the bristles stand straight to give a much cleaner cut.

  17. Ahhh, I didn't mean to suggest anything WRONG with it....it was the kind of pun where the reactions begin with the sound of animals roaring and then are followed up with messages of respect to the pun man(oops, I guess I forgot to add the latter).

  18. Remember my post from quite a while ago about a pretty woman whose desk was right behind mine at work, and she always had Red Door Perfume on? I thought it smelled wonderful, and never complained to her about it because of that reason. This was back in the late 1980's.

  19. Well...after looking at my Ebay purchase order from last week and checking the razor I discovered that my Gillette flare tip has a "Z 3" date code on it which makes it a 1954 model and not 1955 like I originally thought. I have no idea why I thought it was made in 1955. :shocked029:
