The Reserve base has its detractors but I really like it. Probably some of my earliest soap acquisitions when I started traditional wetshaving. I did one or two Rules using nothing but the Reserve soaps. I really feel like I know how to get the best out of it.

Still working as it should with a BBS finish. As if the Taconic pump cream isn't slick enough adding some pure aloe vera gel into the cream before whipping up lather makes this stuff super slick and should work well with any cream.

This evening, I decided to do an experiment with a 1930s shave stick that I got in a TSD raffle a few years back. I got two of these sticks, and at the time, I removed the deteriorating coverings and replaced them with aluminum foil. They have been gracing my counter ever since. I decided to give one a go. I put one in some water and let it soak for a good while hoping to rejuvenate it some. Long story short, it did not lather well at all. However, it did give me some slickness that I decided to take advantage of. I did a one pass shave with it and got a pretty good shave. Here is the proof.
