My :signs002: response was a lame attempt at commenting: "and I didn't". The 3P soap---my "rule" soap, hasn't turned out to be my favorite, even though I am using it to completion.

If the question is did I ever attempt a NB, the answer is mos def©. If the question is, did I ever SUCCEED in one, the answer is: :happy097::happy102:
    Hence, my cynicism.

That is the reason I have made a move away from purchasing soaps and their matching aftershaves.

Hey, Joe! You need to come on down to Players Barbershop in Hatboro, Pa! They usually use Feather DX razors, but will use a regular straight razor if you sign a waiver! I can look after Mad Max for you before your shave! :D

Nice, nostalgic shave, Myles. My father used to use Vitalis. Must be nice to have enough hair to use that hair tonic. Take a look for this: (I used to use it when I had a head-full of hair, you might enjoy it)

Oh dear, Danny, we were going to invite Charlie (@wristwatchb) to the Gold and Cotillion Philadelphia Grand Dinner. He would have had a choice of Chateaubriand or Pheasant under Glass for his main entree. That is until he sent a picture of himself done up in his Sunday Best!!!

Proraso Shave Cream & After Shave - Red
    Feather AC DX (Kamisori style)
    Schick Proline B-30 (2)

Quick very early morning shave and out the door for a road trip to South Louisiana for a few days.

2 passes with zero issues, baby dolphin smooth.

This will be the setup (or a Blackland Vector) til Wednesday when I return, although I have Proraso Shave Foam (red, of course ;)) in the dopp bag. These two razors share the same blades, so it’s easy to get either an open edge shave or a safety razor shave with great results.

Reading along in the evenings as I can, caught up for now. Awesome great shaves, images, gear and everything, including some scrumptious looking ribs by @Edison Carter. First place visited was Po-Boy Express for some South Louisiana fried shrimp sandwich greatness. This morning requires lots of Community Coffee, chicory blend. :bounce015:

Not my image...but this is the chow last night. Daughter had fries with hers though.

SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, JANUARY 10, 2021

It’s another cool, clear 28° day here in the Philadelphia suburbs, and the first day of what will be a week long focus on Gillette safety razors here at TSD. The only requirement for inclusion as I understand it is that each safety razor design selected must be at least 50 years years old. For today’s shave I selected one of my favorite Gillettes, the New Standard. Mine dates from 1928. This design is a very efficient shaver, particularly when fitted with a Kai DE blade which is a smidge wider than my preferred Feather DE blade, and just about as sharp. There was a bit more blade feel than usual on the noggin this morning, but the dome result was a foregone conclusion! Or as a friend here in our straight razor forum is wont to say, “dolphin smooth! My wood handled Feather DX was calling to me as well this morning for my mug shave. So I loaded up a Feather AC Super and had at it. The JR Custom Rosewood Silvertip Badger #378 delivered its usual thin, slick facial lather which the DX scooped away in three luxurious passes leaving me refreshed, clean and velveteen smooth!

RAZOR: Wood Handled Feather DX (Mug), Gillette New Standard Circa 1928 (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather Super AC
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: JR Custom Rosewood Silvertip Badger #378
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

Beautiful photo, Jason. You learned the same lesson we all have with the R41, genuine or clone. Focus, focus, focus, or she will bite! She’s a very jealous lady, and I’m sure didn’t appreciate your paying attention to another woman! :D

Lovely shave, Dave! You have one of the later model Big Fellows with the New Standard heads! Mine dates to the second year of production, 1920, and features the Old Type head. Nice Gillette shave! :)
