For Gary’s
@brit challenge of using a 50+ year-old razor for a week, out comes the 1957 Gillette red tip. Originally I was going to go with the Gillette “New” that I enjoy using. However, the gears have shifted and I’ve been using the Red Tip.
Ever since I got into this hobby, when I first started seeing the Red Tips, I fell in love with the looks - primarily the handle. One of the coolest looking knurling designs, hands-down. I still feel that way. I wanted one, and knew eventually a Red Tip would grace the den. About a year ago, a fellow at work came to see me about a whole host of razors that he and his wife picked up at auctions over the years. They don’t specifically attempt to get razors. They buy boxes of miscellaneous items, and a number of times, there happened to be razors included.
Out of all the razors he brought in, only two were selected. The Red Tip and a Rolls. Since that time, the Red Tip has only been used maybe three times, up until Gary’s Challenge. TTO razors just aren’t my thing. I have a Slim and Fatboy, and they seldom see any runtime. I can’t really put into words why I don’t care for the TTO design. Maybe it’s the geometry? Whatever it is, I don’t get much enjoyment using them. It’s not that they can’t clamp a blade properly, and that I can’t get a good shave with one.
Nonetheless, after this run, I’d like to see this razor make its way into a home where it will be used and appreciated. The offer still stands for Paul
@Paul Turner if he’s interested. If not, someone else will have a shot.
Yesterday’s schedule didn’t allow for a post, so yesterday and today will be combined into one.

Today's shave was especially nice. Close and comfortable, and tons of Asian Plum awesomeness. Finished with the matching EDP. I'll be smelling it for the rest of the day.

Have a great day, fellas!
