Thanks, Joe! I learned that my local "Gillette" expert ain't so expert! My safety razor for today's shave was a New SC according to our Gary, who has more credibility with me than the local guy. :)

Interesting and a very nice looking brush. I wonder if a black horse hair knot can be sourced?

Round 3 of the Gary Gillette mini focus.
1947 1st iteration Super Speed, Bic Chrome blade, shave 3
    [IMG] [IMG]

Second shave with a day's growth this time to test and surprisingly an even closer shave than the prior with a BBS finish. Now I need to do the 46 - ?? Ranger after a day's growth and with the other side of the blade which should be worn the same as this side of the blade was for this shave. If the 46 - ?? Ranger doesn't match up on the next pass then I can only conclude I screwed up and they are a different shaving razor since all variables otherwise will be the same.

very cool Andrew.folks claim the 1947 superspeed differs shave wise than the notched speed load version in 1948..

It most certainly does. The 48 and up 3rd iteration notched 40s style super speed is nowhere as close of a shaver and tugs a bit. This version is significantly smoother and more efficient than the 3rd iteration. The 2nd iteration which is not notched was not as a good as the 1st iteration but better than the 3rd from what I remember. If it was as good or better than the 1st iteration I would have kept mine way back. If any of the Super Speeds including the British ones were as good or better than this 1st iteration 40s style Super Speed I would have kept them when I had a full collection of all the Super Speed razors.

Thanks Danny....I must say the Rise "aftershave balm" does me good enough. It ain't Clubman, but it's a good post-shave.

    Thursday's Shave

    Gillette NEW LC
    Ladas Super Stainless (1)
    Omega 49 Boar
    Stirling Electric Sheep Shaving Soap
    T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Murray & Lanman Florida Water
    Nivea Cooling PSB

Day 14 with the Electric Sheep single soap focus... and I'm truly ready to be done with this tub. I think seeing the donut hole slowly expanding makes the anticipation of moving on to another soap even greater. With the exception of the first two days, I've been using various Gillette TTO razors all month and decided to switch to the NEW LC this morning. Yep, it's still a smooth operator. :happy088:
2+ easy passes provided a comfortable and efficient result with no irritation or mishaps to report.
