  3. Yesterday did a quick shave video. Cut my self a little bit around the neck. So for today’s shave I’m gonna be pretty gentle around that area. Seeings how I don’t have an alum block I used a cube of ice and applied it to my nics to stop the bleeding directly. Here’s today’s shave [IMG]

That’s the video from yesterday’s shave.

Woke up late and had a quick 2 pass shave before work. Decent shave, but not nearly as nice as having the luxury to take my time. Finished with a cold water splash.
  8. My recommendation for your issue with cuts are:

    1. Improve your angle or lower your blade exposure setting.
    2. Preshave Oil - oil forms a seal/barrier on top of the skin that helps protect against blade contact and irritation. It prevents cuts from happening.
    3. Use a smoother blade. In my Gillette Super Speeds I use a BiC Chrome-Platinum. They are more comfortable and less likely to cut your skin.
    4. Buy an Alum Block and Styptic Pencil.

The pre-shave and post-shave products are important tools to old-school wet-shaving. They work. There are some good preshave soaps like Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Cube". But, in my opinion, when I want to augment a standard old-school soap, I tend to like good old-fashioned oil. Lather & Wood makes a great pre-shave oil that is my favorite. Multi-pass shaving, IMO, necessitates shaving tools, especially a pre-shave to protect the skin.

And in case of the eventual razor burn or bad shave, post-shave tools can improve the look of the skin after healing, as well as speed healing. Alum, aftershave and a high quality skin serum/balm work extremely well. And when I say "high quality balm", I mean the ingredients should be similar to what women use in their face serums. Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin-E, caffeine and other anti-oxidants really work to recover skin. If you use these over a lifetime you will have fewer wrinkles in your middle and older ages.

The way to go is to use the best tools of the old school and the science of today's skin recovery and maintenance.
