Today the Tafuri had a walk on ... Belgian Blue Princesa Coticule Ozuku https://theshaveden.com/forums/posts/1923588/
A new acquisition. A vintage 6/8 Tranchant Beajeu Aine. Nice heavy blade so, I'm looking forward to see how she shaves. She was a bit dirty. After spending the early day cleaning, I found the pitting was a bit more than I expected. Polished to what I was able. She shines but, the pitting is visible. Unfortunately, the edge had a few minor chips. I had to start with a 400 grit stone to remove them. Moving up to 15000 grit, she finally took a nice edge. Sterilized the blade. Not going to lie, it took close to 4 hours of honing to get it shave ready. I'll strop her for 100 laps tomorrow and see if I like the edge even more.
Took another pair of German (L. Sommer) and Swedish (Dahlgren) blades to the stones. Suehiro 1k then Naniwa 4-8-12k then this Suehiro Gokumyo 20k for the finish. Happy honing. Tom
New 6/8 Double Duck Goldedge Special. She's a nice one, IMHO. polished up nice. Honed quickly to a nice shaving edge. Some lapping on the strop and I'll be using her first thing tomorrow morning. Can't wait to see how she shaves.
Thank you. As long as I didn’t screw them up, they should be very enjoyable. I don’t find the 20k too harsh, but the edge does get better for me a few shaves in with some good stropping. look forward to seeing the duck in the SOTD
CV Heljestrand Le Duc MK 44 Stainless Steel Couldn't sleep a wink last night. So, instead of looking into the vast stupidity of late night T.V., I decided to set up my work station, listen to an audio book and clean up and hone a straight razor. The blade was a bit scratched from, I suppose, a wrong angle perhaps? Wrong sharpening material? I don't know. But she was nicely polished so only work came from honing an improper edge geometry. It looks like whomever tried to sharpen it in the past, may have used a knife sharpener??? Maybe. The scales were filthy, however. Wet sanding and they turned out fine. A bit of re-setting the pins and she is tight. As I stated, the edge wasn't correct so, it took a while to reform a new one. But, Seeing that I was wide awake and listening to "Sherlock Holmes and the Sign of the Four", I just kept on my merry little way until she took a beautiful edge. Stropped with linen for 50 laps, then leather for 100. Looking forward to her test shave in a few day's. Have to shave with the new 6/8' Goldedge Special. I finished her yesterday. So, first come first serve, I suppose.
Doing a little more testing of the light green stone from Takeshi, with a TI Basic Black for a test razor. The stone is dense, pure, and not that hard. The shave was excellent, I am pleased with this one.
6/8 Diamante Full hollow ground with a Nice heavy blade. Just finished her. I hope she shaves as good as she looks.
The usual suspects were up for the initial honing of the Rejoneo, bevel set with a Shapton Glass 2k HR, followed by a Shapton Glass 6k HC and Jnat. HHT was silent root in or out.
For the Hone of the Day ... NALS Princesa di Fontanabuona on HRICO KureNai HH33B https://theshaveden.com/forums/posts/1928693/
It looks sleek. The blade also looks like a fancy Gold Dollar 66. If you have a Gold Dollar 66, can you compare the two?? .
@DaltonGang GD66 I had was warped. This is straight. Edge retains a little better. Stabilizer is not an issue to honing.
Thursday morning, CVH MK No. 24 3/8”. Remarkable nice piece of razor. From have being not that fun to a favourite. The solution was a lot of stropping... Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Another Dovo Frown ala Convex honing I did a vid on how to correct them on FB I need to figure out how to load it here... Ha!!!! Found it and figured out how to load it
Maher & Grosh Famous Toledo Blade; Honed very nicely. Couldn't get the small pitting cleared up without grinding so, I just cleaned it up.
