  1. Very nice shave Paul. Is this a Red Tip shave?

  2. Thank you Charlie! I broke my wire that charges my phone so I had to drive in the snow to the local 7-11 to replace it. The roads are getting treacherous and now I am home for the rest of the day. I will be reading and doing some other things to keep me occupied. I am not interested in the Super Bowl. I will be having online church with my pastor at 6. You and Kathy enjoy the day as well.

  3. Wonderful video, Bill! I'm looking forward to what you think about my edge on the Simmons I sent you with the Smith Bros. By the way, couldn't one just clamp a stone in a vise sideways and accomplish the same thing. I would think that holding a stone sideways might also accomplish the same outcome. I'm stuck here in Tennessee for at least another 6 or 7 days before I can get home to my stones and test out my thinking. Excellent points! :happy088:

  4. Most of the time in the winter months I finish off with the asb months for protection against the elements, sometimes adding the ASL for fragrance over the balm.

  7. Thanks Joe! I won't be doing too much shoveling. At least I hope so because the plow came down my street about 20 min ago. I bet there will be another snow day tomorrow or a virtual school day. Be safe, my friend.

  8. Very nice shave Jeff. Go easy on the shoveling.

  9. Awesome looking shave Terry. I hope all is well.

  10. Joe, a great finish to the mini-focus. Congrats on dialing in the SRX. Go easy on the snow shoveling and enjoy the game without shoulder pain. My Bride is in charge of sports programming, and I give the Super Bowl viewing a 50/50 chance here.

Really glad you will be joining everyone on the solidarity shave tomorrow...except @9nein9 who has been found wanting and somewhat isolated from the 30DC brotherhood. ;)

18 weeks with the Yutes and counting down quickly!

  13. Thank you Charlie. The SRX is an excellent shaver. It is now cleaned up, Dawn dish soap bath, and put away for a few weeks. After tomorrow’s Muhle shave, I will go back to my straights for at least until next Sunday.

  14. If you feel comfortable doing so and want to continue, Paul, I'd give it more time with the Red Tip. The conventional wisdom of a successful rule is performing 30 shaves with the same setup. It takes time to develop solid, consistent technique.

Alternatively, if using the Red Tip is not your thing or providing you any enjoyment, by all means put it on the shelf.

As @Primotenore yodels...er...says, you will get better results if you don't switch back and forth between razors while you're learning. And as @clint64 says, focus on technique, and the results will follow. And as I loudly proclaim, "Pass the ice cream please."

Bottom line, it's your shave. Whatever you decide to do will be the right thing. Regardless of how it shakes out with the Red Tip, it's all good. :)

  15. Thanks Jeff.

I’ve read of folks using the side of a stone, a corner or narrow ones for razors with a bend.

In a way a convexed hone is the inverse of honing an extreme smiley like your Saito on a flat. Both present 2 isolated contact points one on the edge and one on the spine. I just found them easier, if not intuitive to use.

I’ll give the Simmons a run in a day or so. Nice heft and feel for a smaller razor.

I’ll hold the return for a few days.

  16. Very nice shave Clint. I’ll take your dusting
