  1. It wasn’t so bad; I told her I’d run out of batteries for my hearing aids! Just a very long drive! I’m definitely not as resilient as I was when younger! ;)

  12. Paul, our overnight stops were in Erie, PA and Springfield, MA.

Here's a closer look from Erie onward. Our stop in Springfield included a side trip to Sturbridge. How close did we get to your neck 'o the woods?

We're hankerin' for another one of these road trips once we get the all clear. This was a springtime trip...probably would not attempt this trip in the winter. :)

  14. You made it safely, Jeff. That's a mighty long straight-through drive. My Bride and I stop having fun on road trips somewhere around 8 hours, if you know what I mean. :) I give you an A+ for the effort, and I hope you got some rest today.

When I was younger and still had my hair and sense of humor, our longest non-stop road trip was 21 hours - Ft. Lauderdale to Louisville. That was...ahem...stupid. :) We generally try to overnight every 8 or 10 hours these days. We also take more breaks to stretch our legs and drive mid-week if possible. Everything is easier when you are retired. I had some blood clots a few years back, and driving for a very long period of time without stopping was a suspected cause.

  15. Georgetown, TX is 2.5 hours south of us. It’s a northern suburbia of Austin, TX. That area has the rolling power outages worse/longer according to the reports.

That’s a bummer Bill. Like Dave said, maybe propane for a generator that doesn’t get a regular workout.

These two see use 1-4 weekends a month. They power the camp setup. One of the counties I travel through has gas with no ethanol, so I fill up the gennies and 4 five gallon gas cans there when I can. Even when I can’t, it’s always top tier gas brands and Chevron ethanol treatment. No issues so far (and I’m knocking on wood!).

  16. That's a trip and then some Charlie! The direct route is still a trip and a half! I would have taken Rt 80 in Pennsylvania and then get on Rt 84 to get into Connecticut leading into Rt 95 in Mass.
  17. 21 hours of driving is like driving from NY to Minneapolis. or Florida.

  18. Yes, Joe, it was a road trip. We try to space things out, share the driving, and take plenty of time once we reach our destination so that it is manageable. We love to see new places, so the drive is just part of the fun. We've driven out west as as far as the Tetons, Yellowstone N.P., and on into Idaho. Our last big drive out west was to Dallas.

We don't mind flying, except for all the goofy rules, but we can stretch our travel dollars and see more when we drive.

  19. The farthest I have driven was in June 1994. I was in Indiannapolis for a PromiseKeepers Convention at the Hoosier Dome. Stayed in one of the dorms at IU/Bloomington.

  20. I will run my route plans past you, Joe, the next time we make the trip. Driving in the NE is not something we do often. We got into some real traffic (and therefore stopped having fun mos def :)) on the outskirts of NYC in CT. I was "encouraged" not to take that route again.
