Good morning!

Today starts my Blackland Focus and what better razor to start with than the one that started my wetshaving journey, the Blackbird OC. This thing tore me up when I first started, memories are still fresh. This isn't a mindless razor for me. I would rank it in the top three or four in my collection as most likely to draw blood. No blood today. Three passes for near BBS. A little extra warmth from the alum in the hollows of my neck.

Hello all!!

Still got it going on....

I used one of my MMOC's for yesterday's shave. It was ok but not quite up to par with this little guy.
The most comparable so far is a slant barless.
I find that I like the way I can tune this one because of the flat top cap.
Maybe that's why I use the DEvette 6 out of 7 shaves.

Final shave with the Wolfman before starting my Blackland focus. I decided to explore different shaving angles. Up until today always a shallow angle, right where muscle memory takes me. I included steep and angles in between. Really didn't notice much difference and thought to myself what a large sweetspot this razor has. Gave my face a thorough cold water rinse and reached for the alum. I can lie to myself but the alum doesn't lie. Pretty warm everywhere. Not newbie hot like I used to get when I first started out but more than the light tickle I usually get. Shallow angle from here on with the Wolfie.

Happy Hump Day Everyone. This week is going by quickly. Since I have a Neurologist appointment this morning, I decided to go with the very lightly scent Cade Shave Cream. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby with ease. I am still meh on the razor. I think it is leaving the den. Someone might want the BrassBird. If not I will take some photos and get it listed. Yeah baby!

Excellent Tabac lather was produced by the Shave Forge horse hair knot in the Dscosmetics handle. I believe one could whip up Tabac with a tooth brush. It is great soap that begs to be unleashed.

I loaded a new blade in the Razorock Hawk V3 open comb after a couple of swipes with an old blade. The shave was not feeling right but the new blade made all of the difference. Three nice smooth passes. I hope everyone has this great of a shave today. The Hawks are just great razors.

A little Witch Hazel, dry down and then a few squirts of American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger. Oh yeah.....smooth and smelling purdy but not as purdy as Jim @jluc.

We are going to 70 degrees again today. I hope everyone has a marvelous hump day. Take care gentlemen!

Another great shave with the Supply. I got an exceptional lather with this old Strop Shoppe soap, which isn't always the case to be honest. I had the Black Tie in their original non-tallow formula and really found it a substandard lather (full disclosure- it was NOS, but maybe a soft artisan soap isn't supposed to last 7 years before opening) but a very nice scent. This tallow version is usually 'ok' for lather in what some (well, Stirling anyway) consider to be an iconic scent. This may be a puck that benefits from consistent use. I think I have found my replacement for the Cool in a 3017 focus. 2 days a week should be sufficient and it will take me a long while. 2 out of 6 shaves a week? I guess that makes it a 1035.7 focus...
These Prolines are very smooth blades. The Supply is an easy way to use them too, as you don't have to fiddle with getting them into an injector cartridge. For those of you who don't have one- there is an injector slot in the head of this SE, but you can just loosen the nut a bit and easily get a blade in without needing an injector.
Finished with the Stirling homage. I enjoy it- less powdery, more tart that the original.

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 24, 2021

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day here in the Philadelphia suburbs, albeit with 6-8” of snow remaining. Hopefully, it will melt in the next few days. I think I’m developing a real affection for wedges. The H. Hobson 6/8 wedge is an incredibly efficient 170 year old straight razor. One of the reasons I enjoy shaving with this old vintage razor is the feeling that I’m a caretaker for a tool used by eight generations of predecessors. This razor will pass to my son and from there hopefully to my grandson. The Hobson sheared through the mug whiskers in three efficient passes. I could have stopped after two, but I just enjoy using this old razor too much. The dome shave featured my LaResche 77 loaded with a Wilkinson Sword blade. Two effortlessly efficient passes later left me clean, refreshed and velveteen smooth.

I decided to do a hot water shave, but I decided to bloom the soap, to use the water as a preshave and to load the brush to facelather without the "scuttle".

I had enough lather for 3 passes if I wanted to go that route.

Tonight was a 2 pass shave without any touchups for a BBS - shave without mishaps. I didn't want to do the 1/2 pass to go for BBS because I felt that this was close enough and didn't need another cut. Lol! After applying the wh and the asb, I topped off with this great fragrance of the matching aftershave. I like Stirling Spice SS and AS very much! They really are winners in my book! Busy day…afternoon shave. Lots of work, then some yard prep for the early spring like weather coming the next 10 days.

Wanted another face lathering run with the Chubby 2 using PAA’s CK6 soap base. Started with the knot being extremely wet, loaded straight from the tub for 20ish seconds. Used a heavier splaying pressure than I do with my other brushes, created a super creamy, but still a nice wet lather with some aggressive face swirling action. 3 passes with the HT 8000, no crimson or irritation issues at all. Super smooth, surprisingly sharp shaver, almost the exact size and weight match to the Feather AC DX used yesterday. The HT shaves almost exactly like the DX (with a fresh Proline blade), particularly after the HT went through a thorough linen and leather stropping session immediately before shaving today. Quick palmful of PAA’s Star Jelly, followed with the fun aroma of Copalli. Need to rotate this fragrance more, wifey loves it (even got the comment).

Copalli is another complex fragrance from Douglas at PAA, a deep resinous woody (almost cypress) blend to my nose. PAA’s scent profile is likely more revealing, as my nose is not acquainted to all these notes. Scent Profile: Black Copal Forward, with a kiss of Palo Santo. Ethereal, Aromatic, Resinous, Ambrosial and Balsamic.

Finishing my shaving week off in style with my much loved ER 1912 (UK) which performed wonderfully cutting through my stubble effortlessly...This is the most visually attractive in my small Ever-Ready SE razor collection, The Art Deco style handle is Stunning.
What more can I say about these remarkable razors. The shave was fantastic...When ever i use my vintage razors I feel as though I'am using a proper shaving tool when shaving with them. I have such love and respect for these wonderful vintage shaving tools...Another enjoyable 3 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Baylis & Harding ~ Amber & Sandalwood ASB..

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine.

VARIETY is baaaaaaaack ! YES !! Chose the NYC for today which is a nice scent and some cool artwork as well on the tub. I have to say that it feels like cheating when using an Injector razor and I have to wonder if I had started with them, would i have ever tried anything else. Why did they not continue to be produced by Schick or Eversharp. We seem to always fall victim to the new mousetrap and desire better when best may have been these razors. Just a mindless and close shave that would rival any modern day Stainless Steel art designed razor. Maybe not it appearance an coolness factor, but definitely in what the tool was supposed to produce. Maybe I'll sell ALL my razors except the injectors......................Nah, I like the history and the different "tools" but today's shave had me wondering if I could have just 1 razor for the rest of my life, would I pick for function or cool factor? Which would I choose?...................Okay, let's shake off those crazy and rational thoughts and get some coffee and something sweet to go with it. It is time to play catch up. I left my phone at work Tuesday which has resulted in being at least 400 post behind as some point yesterday. I am sure I have missed a few great shaves but I will see them all between now and the end of today.

This morning’s shave was nothing less than phenomenal. I do not reach for the DG/CL Lamplight Penance for no other reason than I have too much in the den. I enjoy it every time I break it out. I will be smelling and feeling good all day as this scent/toner is “long winded”. Super smooth three passes with the Puma 65.

Now it is time to get out the door to hang with the Yutes. Have a great day gentlemen.

Happy Thursday everyone. I am up and moving this morning which I will take as a huge positive. I am behind on work with one client in particular so I have a rough day ahead. I know it's not Friday but I decided to go with the Fat today. I was lazy and the Fat was on the counter. The Omega Evo is fantastic brush and did a wonderful job loading and lathering the Fat. Three passes and touch ups with the iKon caught the baby. The OSS is a mild razor but if I do my part it is efficient. A splash of Green Vetiver and I am off to work with fingers crossed it will be a productive day.

Back to the Karve this morning. This D SB and I get along very, very well. The Polsilver feels invisible in it as well. Not the best Reserve lather as the tub winds down, but I got 3 decent passes worth without squeezing out the knot, which is my bare minimum baseline for sufficient (over?)loading. I am completely smooth, with an extra stroke or two on the jawline.
This has to be the first time I consistently under estimate how much is left in a tub. Usually it keeps going like the Energizer Bunny, but I'm pretty certain that the next shave with this will be the last one.

Beautiful morning today, but the snow blanket remains! It’s slated to go to 45°F today, so hopefully, some of it will melt. We all have our favorite straight razors, and mine is the Manhattan Cutlery 13/16. The mug shave was superb. Those 19th century Sheffield cutlers certainly knew their trade. The shave was clean and close, and set the stage for the Colonial Silversmith DE. Those of us who own this safety razor recognize it for the gem it is. I never fail to get an excellent dome shave. I wish more people were aware of Colonial Razor and its superlative razor designer! Kyle Evans knows his business! His General AC and Silversmith DE designs reflect a deep understanding of what works well in a safety razor. His General AC design is on version 2, and is unbeatable when fitted with a Schick Proline or Feather Super. I believe it is the only AC safety razor design that outshaves the Vector. In any case I feel clean, refreshed and porcelain smooth!

Dior would change their address to:
33. Avenue Hoche---and you may still have the original formulation.
When they changed their label to read: "Dior", rather than "Christian Dior",
you have a reformulation of the juice.

I decided to bring out my superstar tonight. It's been almost 2 months since Mad Max has been utilized.

I decided to do a hot water shave, but I decided to bloom the soap, to use the water as a preshave and to load the brush to facelather without the "scuttle".

I had enough lather for 3 passes if I wanted to go that route.

Tonight was a 2 pass shave without any touchups for a BBS - shave without mishaps. I didn't want to do the 1/2 pass to go for BBS because I felt that this was close enough and didn't need another cut. Lol! After applying the wh and the asb, I topped off with this great fragrance of the matching aftershave. I like Stirling Spice SS and AS very much! They really are winners in my book! Busy day…afternoon shave. Lots of work, then some yard prep for the early spring like weather coming the next 10 days.

Wanted another face lathering run with the Chubby 2 using PAA’s CK6 soap base. Started with the knot being extremely wet, loaded straight from the tub for 20ish seconds. Used a heavier splaying pressure than I do with my other brushes, created a super creamy, but still a nice wet lather with some aggressive face swirling action. 3 passes with the HT 8000, no crimson or irritation issues at all. Super smooth, surprisingly sharp shaver, almost the exact size and weight match to the Feather AC DX used yesterday. The HT shaves almost exactly like the DX (with a fresh Proline blade), particularly after the HT went through a thorough linen and leather stropping session immediately before shaving today. Quick palmful of PAA’s Star Jelly, followed with the fun aroma of Copalli. Need to rotate this fragrance more, wifey loves it (even got the comment).

Copalli is another complex fragrance from Douglas at PAA, a deep resinous woody (almost cypress) blend to my nose. PAA’s scent profile is likely more revealing, as my nose is not acquainted to all these notes. Scent Profile: Black Copal Forward, with a kiss of Palo Santo. Ethereal, Aromatic, Resinous, Ambrosial and Balsamic.

Back to the Karve this morning. This D SB and I get along very, very well. The Polsilver feels invisible in it as well. Not the best Reserve lather as the tub winds down, but I got 3 decent passes worth without squeezing out the knot, which is my bare minimum baseline for sufficient (over?)loading. I am completely smooth, with an extra stroke or two on the jawline.
This has to be the first time I consistently under estimate how much is left in a tub. Usually it keeps going like the Energizer Bunny, but I'm pretty certain that the next shave with this will be the last one.

Beautiful morning today, but the snow blanket remains! It’s slated to go to 45°F today, so hopefully, some of it will melt. We all have our favorite straight razors, and mine is the Manhattan Cutlery 13/16. The mug shave was superb. Those 19th century Sheffield cutlers certainly knew their trade. The shave was clean and close, and set the stage for the Colonial Silversmith DE. Those of us who own this safety razor recognize it for the gem it is. I never fail to get an excellent dome shave. I wish more people were aware of Colonial Razor and its superlative razor designer! Kyle Evans knows his business! His General AC and Silversmith DE designs reflect a deep understanding of what works well in a safety razor. His General AC design is on version 2, and is unbeatable when fitted with a Schick Proline or Feather Super. I believe it is the only AC safety razor design that outshaves the Vector. In any case I feel clean, refreshed and porcelain smooth!

RAZOR: Manhattan Cutlery Sheffield 13/16 (Mug), Colonial Silversmith (Dome)
BLADE: Sharp Star DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Monster Tuxedo Synth
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Old Spice Original (Indian Version)

A great post on Injectors, Dave. I agree, they are smooth, efficient shavers. I think you would have still tried DEs, though, as we all get a little bored sometimes. You have Injectors and DEs, but I bet you have tried GEM bladed razors or AC bladed razors, I suspect.
