Had another 14 slide into the mailbox today... Giesen & Forsthoff “German Hoppe” 14 Small blemish on the show side, but minimal hone wear and right at 15/16”. And the grind will definitely let this sing. I wasn’t sure of the maker since there are quite a few Hoppe’s, but the GH mark sure does resemble the Giesen & Forsthoff mark: Happy hunting. Tom
Bendy and frowning just like I expect happens from companies making stuff like it for over 100 years. Shaved well out of the box, but not as good as ones I have rehoned at time of sale. Got it for a third of what Amazon shoppers pay.
Thx. Not quite as nice as some of the stuff that makes it’s way into your pics, but it shaves nice. The flaws will give me a little more practice at a lower $$ risk.
Now this was a fun one for me... Nic (Nicolas) Gervais of Antwerp, Belgium: When I saw the listing, the proportions looked big. It didn’t say anything size wise, but it had the model number, and I had seen some of these approaching 9/8”. Well, we came in pretty close to that. Three brothers, working in gunsmithing and cutlery in the late 1870’s through turn of the century. But another reason this caught my attention was that I am still hoping to solve who made my C.H. Suy razor. Very similar... size, grind, tang to spine transition, metal weight and feel. But maybe I should have just looked at the reverse side. I think I have my answer. Now, my new twist... not sure how common the mark on the coffin box is, but it also shows up in a razor made for Gelle Freres in France. So maybe Gervais did some work for them??? Happy hunting. Tom
Thank you! I did go on a small binge, and I am a sucker for a nice Heljestrand at a good price, so this one needed the “buy it now” pressed. MK31 with some beautiful scales, only a small chip that you might be able to see in this photo. A shame that a 7 day set was split up, but I now have a very nice razor to use on Tuesdays. Happy hunting. Tom
Congratulations! I have 2 MK No. 31, really nice razors. Also the 30 model is a little nice one Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
