Terrific shave Blair! It's funny because my best brushes are lather hogs but I have learned to paint the lather on my face without splaying the brush, otherwise the lather flows towards the brush.

Medium rare is okay for me with the right cut of meat, but it’s almost not enough.

Back in the 90s, when companies still did the big Christmas out dinners, we were treated to one of the top steak restaurants in DFW. The lady who sat next to me (in her early 60s then), every bit a TX farm raised gal, told them to just waive her Prime Rib over the flame.....they obliged.

I tried tape, but was never totally satisfied with my honing on flats either way. I think I lacked the skill and the feel necessary to obtain consistency on razors that were not dead flat. I choose not to aggressively remove metal unless necessary. Tape spares the spine and forces all wear to be on the edge. Plus it can gunk up stones. Straight razors were honed success long before 3M electrical tape existed. Not saying it is wrong for others to use it if they wish.

I think the Smith Bros was an excellent shaver worthy of rescaling and using.

As I do honing maintenance on my new TI, I will slowly work away the frown and keep the bevel blended smoothly. I would never know it existed by how it shaves. Sometimes a fat round face is an advantage.

Beautiful pic and report as always Joseph, have a great weekend
I didn't gel my Oumo boar in my Rubberset 400 but it's split nice and feels great but I notice it takes quite a bit to load enough soap too. I figured it's the tallness of the boar I have. Great pic and shave Jim

Yes, lots of ‘meh’ opinions out there on gelled boars it seems, Jim. That handle is just too cool and awesome to leave a substandard knot in, imho. I have a few Oumo flattop boars en route, I’ll let you know how they perform as the look would be very appropriate for that homage.
Edit- For ONCE, that wasn’t meant to be a snide NB enabling shot...:)

Thanks Dave! I realize that you can't like everything. Scents are very subjective and what I like or don't like depends on my preference. For example, I like Tabac and Arko, but others don't. Different strokes for different folks.

    Thanks, Jeff!

    Thank you, Joe!

The Heritage gelled boar and the badger knots are different animals, literally.

My wife was adamant about at least medium but preferred medium well when we started dating. Over the course of thirty plus years I've got her eating and enjoying medium rare. Now I have to work on my son-in-law. He's part of the reason for the second Anova.

    Thanks, Dave.
I never noticed it with my Omega Pro98 knots. The plan is to use my gelled Shoate tomorrow then I'll follow that up with one of my ungelled Pro98's for comparison.

Yes, I know and good line. Jim! My point was that Neil's quality of workmanship is very good and I am surprised that it didn't apply to his boar knots. Obviously, he doesn't make the knots, but if his badgers pass his standards, then why not his boars.

I believe Neil harvests Omega knots and gells them himself. The process just isn't optimal for boar knots in my experience. I'm not at all saying Neil's quality of workmanship is substandard.

    Thanks Joe!

The only badger knots I've had lather hog comments on are ones from HC. Don't have the problem with badger knots from The Golden Nib, Darwin, Brad Sears Shave Works, Zenith, Wild West Brushworks or Shavemac (and probably one or two I'm forgetting without going and checking inventory). It's not worth the time to alter a method for one vendors' knot, when the method works for every other badger knot in my den. I'll either remove this knot and replace with something I like.... could see an Omega boar, or even an Omega EVO in this handle....but I may just not want to bother, the color combination isn't on the favorite list, it's a little bland to me.

One of my favorite razors performs well again. All these products are in credible shaving tools. The Turkey's stopped by to check out the other bird feeders.
