I'm brand new to wet shaving! I've used an electric shaver for 16 years but just made the change. With WFH due to the pandemic, I have a little more me time. Now, I picked up this starter kit, from Maggard's. Any recommendations on what blades I should start with? Also, any tips for the new guy, who has sensitive skin? Last but not least, are there any soaps that smell similar to the frags below? Bonus points if you know the one that smells similar to Memoirs. I read the review of Braun serires 7 will good for my skin from the following website: https://upshavers.com/best-electric-razors/. And what does everyone use? Do any of you have one you really like? What do you like (and dislike) about it? Thanks All!
This may help. 1. Take your time 2. Learn the lingo, BBS, ATG, RIDE THE CAP, etc, etc.... 3. Don't go for a BBS shave for quite a while 4. Go for a comfortable shave. Look around this site. https://sharpologist.com/ Welcome! Good luck! tp
Welcome aboard @dominictuan ! Razor blades are a very subjective thing. For every person who loves a given blade, there will be someone else who hates it. Get a sample pack of different blades. As to which to use first, you can get some help from my friends Eeenie, Meenie, Miney & Moe.
Electric shaver has no capability to get BBS. I've had the Braun, and It's a nice razor. But not comparable with any safety razor. IMHO, best option to start with: • Single Edge (new gen) • Kai ProTouch (guarded blade) • Synthetic shaving brush (Plissoft or Cashmere fiber, as Maggard or RazoRock or Yaqi or Oumo) • One of the thousands good soap out there (Stirling, great q/p ratio with hundreds of nice frags) Best way to start is understanding the skills are more important than products. https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/where-are-you-in-your-shaving-journey.65137/
Welcome to TSD! I think many (most?) of us here have nothing good to say about even the best of electric razors due to the way that they cut the hairs and irritate the skin. But, DE shaving can take some time and trial and error to get down. And as Sara noted, the blade that you love might not work well for me, and vice versa. But, it's worth the work and experimentation. Of course, cartridges are used by some of us too and they will still give a nicer shave than an electric. But, as someone around here used to say, "It's your shave, enjoy it your way." Good luck and keep us posted. You may also want to post a "Hello World"/intro thread over here and tell us a bit about yourself: https://theshaveden.com/forums/forums/welcome-center.28/ ..
A serious question: how did you manage to electric shave for 16 years without constant razor burn and/or ingrown hairs? Tedolph
