Round five with the Tatara Nodachi.

The Razorock 400 synthetic whipped up another great bowl of Imperial shave soap.

I wanted to keep everything the same as yesterday except I used a Rockwell 6S handle. The blasted finish matches the Nodachi better and it is about the same weight as the Weber bulldog. The Astra SP was on its second run.

I rode the bar again this morning keeping the handle almost parallel with my skin. I completed three passes with excellent results. I'd call this one a BBS shave and the shave felt amazing. No drama or blood loss.....just pure awesomeness. Now the real test.....the alum. Oh yeah....just a hint of alum in a few places but I will take it. :happy108:

Finish the shave with a little witch hazel followed by American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger.

Tomorrow I'll put the Nodachi handle back on the head and give it a go but I think I can do fine with the longer handle. The Nodachi is an amazing razor once you get it dialed in. Smooth and very efficient.....it is deceptively smooth. I cannot believe Clint @clint64 let this fine tool out of his den. It may have to go back to Georgia for Clint to play with. :D

Hope everyone has a great Sunday. Take care gentlemen!

Thanks, Chris. It's going to be a big change. I've been off since February 4th, taking a practice run and so far I'm loving every minute of it.

    Ralph Lauren Safari~~Simpson Astor~~1908 Gillette/Personna 74~~Givenchy Gentleman
    Lost focus with today's shave.
Something made me grab the Safari and I mos def® have an opinion about this soap.

Good News and Bad News. First the good:
    Easy to lather.
    Modicum of slickness.
    Now the bad.
    Scent is too strong.
Over the past months, I have ridded my shave den of
ultra-strong scented shave soaps. Safari is über-pungent.
    Not slick enough.
    Not protective enough.
Price for this discontinued soap is too high for the quality.
Today, I used my 1908 SR with a brand new Personna 74 blade.
I will not exclude the possibility of user-error, but the ATG pass on the neck was rough and left me with a few weepers.
Many factors, other than the soap, must be considered.

    1) Old Type vs. Ranger Tech.
The Old Type, imo, is significantly more aggressive, vis-à-vis blade exposure.
I was getting a massive amount of "blade-feel", until I reduced the angle and essentially "rode the cap".
    2) Bad blade?
Just because it is labeled a Personna 74, there is no guarantee that the blade is smooth.
Yesterday's Sharp Star, while maybe not quite as sharp, was significantly smoother.
    3) Mike's vs. Safari.
Mike's has proven to me over and over to be a superior soap with outstanding slickness.
Did I not have the Safari "dialed in"? I rarely reach for it. :signs002:
In the end, I did some scraping on my neck and have to rethink today's technique.

For Sunday(today)I repeated with the Stoylin Sandpiper soap&A.S. com, and brought out the Stoylin 26 mm Pro-Handle brush, thus it was a "near-all Stoylin shave". Why do I say near. Because the razor was the usual-Gillette Sensor Deuce Pivot + DisposeABLE. But I got a real nice shave. I've been trying to get more soap onto the brush and onto my face&neck lately. While it always appears that the first administering of the first pass is the weakest, the strength builds up as I proceed along. That's what happened this morning.Pretty routine all over. No Knicks/cuts. Sandpiper A.S. to finish off. Outta This World Excellent.

    March 7th
    Razor: Feather AS-D2
    Blade: Feather NHS (1)
    Brush: PAA Switchback/2BED synthetic
    Pre-shave: PAA Cube
Soap: DG Massacre of the Innocents
    PAA Galactic Witch Hazel
    PAA Star Jelly
AS: DG Massacre of the Innocents

    Good morning!

A break in my Blackland focus. @clint64 inspired razor swap, the AS-D2. After spending time with the Dart and the Blackbirds this was quite the transition. Two swipes and I stopped to see if I loaded a blade. Yup, it's there. Turned the music way down so I could get a better sense of the audible feedback. Thick slick Declaration Grooming lather and my senses being tuned to much heavier blade feel made the blade feel with the AS-D2 seem nonexistent. Three passes completed for near BBS and just a faint tickle from the alum. I really need to hear what I'm doing with this razor. I'm sure with more uses it would become second nature.

    Have a great day!
