2021-03-14, Sunday
A windy and cool day. And it was drizzling!
I don't know why, but I felt drawn to a puck of Ginger's Garden, a soap I bought years ago and have used little.
This morning I sensed, slight but definite, a hint of Albionic lavender.
It's a glycerine soap, which I've been fond of since I was a child in Nova Ponente (although Deutschnofen is a much better idea), and I used to go with my parents to the village store.
How I loved it...
In those days it was difficult to find anyone who spoke Italian there and we were, more or less subtly, opposed.
One Sunday, my mother went to church and stood at the head of a pew; she saw brass plaques, but thought they were the donors to the pew.
She found out they were placeholders.
Very Christianly, the proprietors came in from the other side and pushed her out: perhaps telling her those places were private would have been rude....
But I liked the store! I mainly remember the smell of that place where my father used to go to buy the newspaper: a mixture of sweets, fabrics, papers and groceries unknown to me...
There were lots of toys, all strictly wooden, and I was especially impressed by a cable car, all made of wood and painted in white and red, with cabins that had sliding doors and soft candies of a plastic consistency that I had never seen, white or pink bricks and.... clear, dark honey-colored soaps.
I wasn't used to asking, so I simply drew my parents' attention to what I wanted.
But no matter how hard I tried to focus their attention on the soap, they never bought me one.
They probably didn't think a child would be interested in such a thing!
The shaving soap is not transparent, but hyaline by now, but it lathers immediately and very well offering smoothness and post-shave protection.
They make others at affordable prices, but not the Bluestone.
And I started the evaluation tests of the head to replace the one of the Maggard MR3 that broke.
Today I tried the EJ 89 one: good, but the blade was probably too worn. I will try again.
However, the feeling is different from when it is mounted on its original handle...
A nice shave and some good memories...
And a nice breakfast: I made myself some
pain perdu.
