Busy day with a late shave. I decided to break out the big guns for today's shave. Stahly Live Blade Razor Astra SP (3) Razorock F400 Synthetic (34mm knot) Imperial Shave Soap American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger cologne The F400 beat the breaks off of the Imperial. Let just say my bowl was running over. I have had this Stahly head for a while but I did not have the Stahly handle till one popped up on Ebay for cheap. The only problem was that it was listed as not working and that was correct. It will not wind up and the mechanism is locked. My neighbor repairs clocks and said he will give me a hand with it when I get it apart. A future project but it should be fun. I thought the Stahly would be cumbersome to handle but surprisingly this was not the case. The handle is about 3 1/4 inches long. Comparison with the Karve. The handle diameter is large but not bad to handle. Three smooth passes. It would have been a real neat shave if the mechanism would work. Alum was a little warm but this is a heavy razor. A little witch hazel and a few squirts of American Tobacco. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Thanks for the reply Andrew. I'm thankful that your mother has a great appetite. I know the schedule situations are frustrating. Hangs in there and the light is always on. Please check in when you have time.
I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow. I agree from testing it dry. the backbone doesn't seem impressive, but we'll see tomorrow. I'm chafing at the bit to try the new straight.
Thanks for the kind words, Jason! I feel like I'll be shaving with the product of a master's work, at least according to my son. He thought it was quite nice. He has a few of Vic's razors, but he said he thought mine was nicer. I think he was just makin' the old man feel good, but it was still a nice gesture. He's got some awesome razors. The pride of his modern artisan collection are five pattern-welded Damascus razors from Snail Forge(2) and Vic (3). He also has a Wootz steel razor from Snail Forge which looks like pattern-welded Damascus, but according to Ben is the original deal which modern pattern-welded Damascus emulates.
Thanks, Danny! I'll be up early and shaving after a night of Bridge with the relatives. It makes the bride happy. She's an excellent bridge player. I just stumble along.
