Old news Bill, I’ve posted these several times before, lol. But you are beginning to appreciate the attraction of pairs my friend!
6/8 Double Duck Special No 2 Boars hair brush Classic Scent Free Shaving Soap Creed Royal OUD Another great and very comfortable shave from Double Duck. Laps on the linen and leather really brought out a fine edge. The Special has a fine edge on the toe for the right under the nose whiskers. Took them like melted butter.
Nice shave with my prized swoopy Ragg that I chased for years. I’m sending it off to @gssixgun soon as the edge it came with is good but not quite my style. Nonetheless, my face is smooth, smooth, smooth and smelling good with that Old Spice. Aye..The Swedish Birds are Better Quality as Well..Talkin from Experience..They Rock My Boat.. Billy..
But many of the British makers, Joseph Rodgers included, used either Swedish ore or ‘blister’ steel, wrought iron, or some precursor product to make shear steel and cast steel for razors! If you do a little Google-fu on Joseph Rodgers and Sheffield history you will find this. What the Swedes did differently IMO was the hardening and tempering. Swedish razors are generally speaking, considerably harder than English razors but in a lot of cases it wasn’t because the steel was different.
Could be, could be . I have also been together with a couple of girls from Finland.... there you have some different kind of women Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Let’s say that the Swedes are better Metallurgists. The reason could be a long history and a lot of iron in the ground. About the Eskilstuna razors ( which are the biggest amount of razors produced in Sweden) there is also differences in hardness. Klas Törnblom razors is perhaps the “hardest” of them all. Almost impossible to get a sharp edge if it is blunt. But when you have the nice edge it lasts a long time. I have 2 German razors, but honestly I prefer the Swedes. Nice one Billy, you always come up with the rare ones! Cape 2000 in honey horn by Alfredo Gil, soap and balm were ABC. A Cape 2000 is one of the more hollow Japanese razors, their feel in hand remind me a bit of the current Dovo Bismarck, except that they’re all well ground, lol. Both these razors are the same size, But the one further from the lens looks narrower. I’m going to have to work on this a little, my camera is an iPhone and the ‘normal’ lens is quite wide and that’s what’s causing the effect. I can be a bit more careful of my razor position or I can try the longer lens and back up a bit.
I’m not sure that this is the case, remember that Mr Heljestrand went to Sheffield to learn metallurgy. I have a a number of older English cast steel razors from the late 1700s and early 1800s, say up to about 1820 or so, that are as hard and fine grained as most Swedish razors. These can be hit or miss in quality though, as many razors of that period were. But the ones that I have are much harder than later English razors, say 1840s and later. My guess is that barbers wanted a razor that was easier to maintain than a large wedge made with hard Swedish steel so the English reduced the hardness in the quench and temper to make them easier to maintain. This is just a guess of course, but English razors getting softer as the 1800s passed by is not a guess from the razors that I own.
One of my projects. Cool looking. A bunch of work to get it shaving. Nothing special to shave with though. Not likely to see a pair of these at my place any time soon. bendy and leans a bit Hourglass shaped spine. Honed by unapproved methods. Do not try this!
